I can honestly say I'm surprised by this. I suspect someone explained to them -- very, very slowly -- that Trump would come for *their* power eventually.

“this is about whether a President can force compliance with his will, without regard for the rule of law that governs our nation. I believe he cannot." —Maine Governor Janet Mills

I don't know that the comparison is entirely fair. A bull is a mindless animal. Trump isn't mindless. We've got the cognitive tests to prove it. So he lacks even that excuse.

Hard, cruel justice would be demanding that these people live under the government they've voted for, and leave the rest of us out of it. And I get the temptation. But "I've got mine, screw you"? We all know whose motto that is. Call me a sentimentalist, but I much prefer "out of many, one".

The predictable response is "we'll take it out of what Britain owes us for WWII."

Archdoctor Bondwonka. Didn't he fight Howard the Duck?

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

As I've noted before, some things fall under "the language of Mordor, which I will not utter here". In that vein, remember that some on the Council of Elrond suggested *using* the Ring as a weapon against Sauron. "There is but one Lord of the Ring, and he does not share power."

I would call invisibility the trait of a *competent* government agency, not necessarily a _good_ one. People can be invisibly fucked over by the state; that's the definition of a successful CIA operation. That said, would be nice to have good -and- competent government. Just now, we have neither.

And for those playing along at home, we all know what he means by "globalist", yes?

"I jumped in the saddle and started to rock. And it broke! It split in two! The wood was rotten, the whole thing was put together with spit and sealing wax! All shine, and no substance." -- Henry Drummond, _Inherit the Wind_

Civil-rights lawyer here. In my business, this is called prima facie evidence of invidious race & gender discrimination. And the other chiefs—all white men—are comparators. The evidence in support of the discrimination claim includes Trump‘s own “DEI” statements admitting to discriminatory motive.

Never forget that the lesson isn't that monsters exist, but that they can be beaten.

...and here's what I thought I was resharing a moment ago.

METH: Not even once.

this is a games store in Tulsa that’s been through hard times and is trying to pay its employees after losing business during storms and other issues this is the only Games store I’ve ever been to in my life that didn’t act misogynistic towards me Please share! www.gofundme.com/f/thrillhous...

This adorable bird is having the time of its life 😂 🔊 sound up! 🎥the_happy_pet_haven

Yes, Nancy, Republicans are unwavering in their definition of "woman". That definition is "doormat".

Yakov Smirnoff needs to come out of retirement to do a PSA on the theme of "politics takes an interest in YOU".

This is America. The only way you get to be king is if you create some of the most iconic comic book characters of all time, like the Fantastic Four and The New Gods.

Pissing off Taylor's fans was a bad move. Coming for Dolly? The phrase "only the heir to the throne of the king of idiots" comes to mind.

You say that as if the two are never found in the same person. o/~ Oh, there are pirates and emperors... o/~

Bannon at least has the sense to give it some plausible-deniability "oh, no, I was just waving to the crowd" wiggle room. I don't believe for a second he *was* just waving, mind you, but he can at least spin it that way. Also, it's telling that the siegs he and Musk tossed off veered to the right.

Shit, I'd settle for making them afraid to enact Nazi policies.

This is what is known as a "stupidity throttling device". It was used back in the 90s to keep the amount of stupid traveling over the internet limited to a trickle. This prevented society from crumbling under said idiocy. Sadly these are no longer in use, resulting in the situation we're in now.

Because these people peaked in junior high, and they've never grown up. They see they're getting a rise out of us, and they think ideals are sissy. And they resent that any one of us -is- smarter than all of them combined.

Reminds me of Asimov's observation on televangelists: "Their every word is God, God, God. And their every deed is foul, foul, foul."

"The right of the strong over the weak" is I believe the usual phrasing.

"Titles, titles, titles. You know how it goes."

You never know what sort of interesting people you might meet. Though be careful about the souvenirs you pick up.

George strikes me as a pragmatist. He knows, better than many, that Democrats are not automatically saints. It was a Democrat who signed the E.O. to lock up his family. But he also recognizes which party is, imperfect or not, on the side of progress.

In my feed, this was right above a post from the same account about people being deported in chains. Fitting.

While Elon makes a perfectly cromulent Grima, I have to say that Trump is no Theoden.

The man's biggest fans don't seem to know Nazis Are Bad, so I wouldn't be surprised. Fuck, as I noted else-post, Trump himself doesn't seem to know things from the _80s_. That he was AROUND for.

Meanwhile, I'm reminded of another Pterry-ism: When the Alchemist Guild's tower stopped exploding, that didn't mean those inside had stopped their experiments. It meant they'd gotten it right.

I've always liked Pratchett's take on Death, as just someone fulfilling a Duty. That character would be annoyed at the increased workload. So I'm glad the cartoonist put the label on the reaper figure, here.

Yeah, a whole lot of people disapproved of Trump's performance in 2020, too. And then in four years, we forgot. Trump's supporters and opponents both hope there won't be a third time. For different reasons.

"Can't someone else do it?" -- Homer Simpson's campaign slogan The non-voting public will wait indefinitely for Someone Else to save them.

Given who he's appointed to HHS, perhaps Trump should be careful with the phrase "chew up your brain". But also, yeesh, I know this putz was around in the 80s for "Just Say No" and D.A.R.E. Whether his own chewed-up brain *remembers* any of that, well, that's another story.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH ON THIS DAY, FEB 18TH 1688

"Likens himself to royalty"?! Motherfucker could have gone with "Hail to the Chief!" He opted for "Long live the King!" This is not "likening". This is "my pronouns are Your/Majesty".

"the sin of empathy" is an expansion of a CREC doctrine first expounded in a short work called "your eye shall not pity," which argues for death camps for gay Americans

Of course they've got the cards. The ones that said "thank you" and had a gift certificate inside.

"Sometimes, history needed a surgeon..."
