I will say for fairness that after an admittedly pretty sharp conversation, Marc has acknowledged the origin & meaning the phrase and that it was inappropriate for him to use the way he did

It's phenomenal for the buses, and let's not pretend the quays weren't a traffic nightmare beforehand too
comment in response to post
Bro committed TWO separate road traffic offenses in order to save negative two seconds on his journey. Incredible stuff.

He then, instead of going straight on, takes a (now illegal) left turn from the middle lane onto O'Connell St - which would have been fine if he had stayed in the correct lane in the first place 2/2

I would genuinely rather listen to the kid screaming than whatever AI generated monstrosity was being blasted max volume down the back of the 15A just there

Double annoying as they know full well people aren't going to tell them to knock it off because, kid. I have a lot of sympathy for folks, parenting is hard, but this is truly testing my limits

Never get the need for these PR crafted self-justificatory spiels, they have never impressed a single person. Just post the Mr Crabs meme and be done with it, like

Long term for sure absolutely, I mean in the immediate time of crisis

Not talking about Ireland - that is prima facie stupid for reasons I have discussed at length previously - but for Europe and the broader democratic and socialist worlds

Ironic of course that the TV shows that inform this viewpoint are mostly American, where I understand the average cop comes in two flavours: a half ton of doughnuts and racism, or one tren cycle away from the biggest aneurysm in human history (and also racism)

Guards, shockingly, don't spend most of their time lifting heavy objects and vaulting high fences. It's like, come on now, you've been screaming for more cops for ages, do you want it or not

Nope

(Also love making excuses for total amoral spinelessness from the parties they vote for)

I think this has nothing to do with the US tbh

All in the service of Michael Lowry, too. A farce heaped on face by people who think they are above criticism or accountability

going to find a way to blame woke for this

Haven't seen the anime but the manga has been consistently incredibly unhinged and highly problematic for all of its 30+ years. It is also, unfortunately, very good.

There is, to be fair, no such thing as a non-insane Baki page

I would suspect the latter tbh

the closing sentence of the first paragraph of Smyth's speech is certainly not original... (via @atticuspeirgorm.bsky.social)

(True about helping via ML approaches I mean, obviously the emissions stuff is true for LLMs, realise my phrasing is unclear)
comment in response to post
The thing is that this is true for AI but not for LLMs, and the conflation of the two (which almost every TD in this conversation does, including the jr minister) has reduced the entire conversation to near meaninglessness
comment in response to post
If you look through the whole debate several TDs openly say they used an LLM to write their speeches! It's awful
comment in response to post
Note that multiple TDs used LLM generated speeches, which imo should be grounds for expulsion from the Dáil on the basis of incompetence, let alone the disrespect it shows to the house and electorate (Also how unimaginative they are that multiple of them thought it would be a clever stunt. Christ)
comment in response to post
Very much high on their own supply vibes alright
comment in response to post
I mean yeah, obviously, they're the ones hawking the snake oil!
comment in response to post
To clarify further I think this is the EXACT trap the junior minister and many of the TDs in the above debate have fallen into, of being unable to disentangle AI from LLMs
comment in response to post
I'd hope he does because right now it's not looking good across the board!
comment in response to post
I think the problem is reversed - those things are indisputably a form of AI, but with the rise of LLMs the popular understanding of AI has been completely distorted (and companies are using that confusion deliberately!)
comment in response to post
The response from many of the opposition TD is broadly in the same vein fwiw. Very very concerning that our TDs seem to basically view it as a tiny genie that lives in your computer and grants vague wishes that improve society and the economy Wildly ignorant stuff
