Even before Zelensky’s visit, Sec. Rubio had terminated vital USAID support to sustain Ukraine’s energy grid. “The USAID initiative had invested hundreds of millions of dollars in helping Ukraine's energy grid recover from attacks from Russia.” www.nbcnews.com/politics/sta...

“Current budget proposals from the Trump administration and the Republican majority in Congress prioritize tax breaks for corporations and high-income earners and threaten essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP that millions of lower- and middle-income families rely on.” #HandsOffMedicaid

“A measles vaccine first became available in the U.S. in 1963. By 2000, the disease was declared eliminated, meaning measles has not been continuously spreading for a year or more in a single area.”

My new @nejm.org Perspective: Medicaid on the Chopping Block posted today, discussing the many essential roles #Medicaid plays and the major cuts now under consideration that could take away coverage and access from millions of low-income people. www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

Most working people, including those delivering frontline care to Medicaid recipients, can’t attend weekday rallies in support of #Medicaid. But thousands of us could collectively walk out during our lunch break. #ProtectMedicaid #HandsOffOurMedicaid #MedicaidMatters

Can we please stop writing and saying “DEI”? Say the whole thing: “DIVERSITY, EQUITY, and INCLUSION”. And then insist that the people trying to “end it” explain which part they are against. #Antiracism #DiversityEquityInclusion

A8: Millions of people across the country rely on Medicaid for their addiction treatment, overdose prevention, and recovery support, and Medicaid is the largest payor of substance use disorder treatment in the country. #WellnessWednesday #MedicaidMatters

As Congress considers ways to cut #Medicaid spending to help finance the extension of federal tax cuts, we examine potential impacts of one option under consideration: imposing a cap on federal spending per Medicaid enrollee, known as a “per capita cap.” A few key findings ⤵️

House Republicans passed their budget resolution. Now comes the slash and burn to federal programs to find the money for their wealthy tax cuts. #Medicaid is at risk. Call ☎️ your reps.

With House Republican leadership trying to falsely claim their draconian $880b in #Medicaid cuts is only about curbing fraud, read this essential blog from my colleague Andy Schneider: ccf.georgetown.edu/2025/01/10/t...

Instead of going after corporations who pay $0 in taxes, Republicans are focusing their budget on slashing assistance for people who struggle and the farmers and small businesses who power our economy. It doesn't make any sense. And it's just cruel.

#Medicaid work requirements don't create jobs or save money – they strip people of health care. Meanwhile, the same politicians forcing families through a maze of red tape to see a doctor are handing billions in tax breaks to corporations. This was never about work. Read more >> commcat.io/3Evdhxo

🚨 Our advocacy is working—but the fight isn’t over. The House is debating a budget that would gut Medicaid, putting millions at risk of losing their health care. Let’s keep the pressure on! Call your Congress member at 866-426-2631 and tell them: STOP THESE CUTS 📞✊

Medicaid cuts are on the table to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. As a community psychiatrist, I see the role of Medicaid in ensuring access to needed care every day. ☎️ Call your Republican House reps to stand up for healthcare! #Medicaid

“ Pretty much every scientist in the country is terrified at the moment. We're looking at an abyss. Every little win like this, we're breathing a sigh of relief, we are living to fight another day — but it's terrifying.”

“While balancing the budget is important, efficiency is more than that—it’s about strategically improving processes, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring sustainability. If these things aren’t done, there is a cost.” ~ @kkjetelina.bsky.social

Think Medicaid work requirements make sense? Do your homework. How many non-working people receive coverage and why don’t they work? When states have tried this, did more people start working? What were the additional administrative costs? Is this efficient and effective government?

Everyone should be following YLE! She was one of my Go To sources of reliable info throughout the covid pandemic and remains committed to helping us all make sense of health policy that affects public health.

You would think the president that oversaw the effects of a worldwide pandemic just 5 years ago would have common sense to strengthen our public health infrastructure. But RFJ Jr and Trump seam set on undermining all the best aspects of government, and our health is at risk.

1/ As a community psychiatrist, I walk alongside people in some of their toughest moments, facing the winds of mental illness, substance use disorders, and poverty. Many of the individuals I support have additional burdens around trauma, immigration, racism, or justice involvement.

The HHS Secretary should have: 1) extensive, fact-based understanding of public health and our health systems and 2) unquestionable commitment to the wellbeing of Americans. RFK Jr fails on both counts.

@USAID is enduring an unlawful shutdown, purge, and dismantling. It’s thrown its vital work into turmoil—based on spurious, absurd, and willfully slanted attacks. Here's what’s real: the massive and growing harm now being caused. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/h...

Commit to staying informed! I’m loving the Vote Smart newsletter, which lists key legislative actions and links to summaries and vote counts. “Vote Smart provides free, factual, unbiased information on candidates and elected officials to all Americans.”

I’m an environmental lawyer. I began studying environmental law over 20 years ago. Never thought I’d see the day the environmental justice movement is called into question. I’ve personally met people who gathered data unequivocally proving disproportionate environmental impacts. Data doesn’t lie.
