Just adding to the chorus of everyone pointing out that a huge problem today is you have a cohort of people under 30 who are the most privileged, prosperous people to ever walk the earth and they feel oppressed because people wanted society to be nice to marginalized minorities

I don't know* if it was worth all the years of screaming, crying, and panic attacks (some of which were his), but I do know that tonight is something I never would have been able to replicate by other means.
*I do know and it of course was

Each discovery unlocked a new thing that led to a new thing, and my son was literally bouncing out of his chair. I have never seen him so happy. What a profound gift to be able to share it with him

BP has so many roadblocks early on I probably would have given up except for the buzz. It's tantalizing but mostly frustrating. But after about day 10 or so things started to perk up, then today we hit a major combo and now things are really cooking

I probably would have quit when the first time I got the workshop I had 4 items and nothing combined for anything. I wish it had more early game discoveries to keep me motivated

I would love to hear about this new democratic constitution that works even if hostile agents are running it

The problem is they *arent following* the constitution and your response is… to throw it out? I’d love to hear about a system that works well even when the people charged with running it decide to ignore it

I can’t read the paper. Do people have a unified concept of what a soul is that can be measured against?

If I say "There will be an earthquake in the next 30 years in the Bay Area" and 7 years later there is an earthquake, did I do anything magical? Useful? Actionable?

I know my toddler is going to throw a tantrum at some point today. I have no idea if he will break a plate, throw crayons at the wall, or just scream for hours on end.
Again, if you disagree I don't know why you are talking to me, put your money down! polymarket.com

Well then I have good news! You can use this deductive power to make a fortune on the prediction markets!

It is absolutely possible to look at an event and point to things preceding it that led to that event. What is next to impossible is going the other direction.

They are not “random events” individually, but collectively they are so complex that they are functionally random. They make sense in hindsight but if you think you can tease out the high order bits to show a causal chain then you stand to make quite a bit of money on Polymarket

If you are able to perfectly recreate the exact conditions, yes! This is so ludicrously impossible to do even at the thought-experiment level, much less in the messy real human world. There's so many variables interacting that make things happen that its facile to think its a simple lerp of the plot

Its like if I flip a coin & it turns up heads, & you say "Of course it turned up heads, that was inevitable based on the position of your thumb, the initial velocity of the flip, & the ambient temperature of the room." Like sure, you may be correct, but good luck extrapolating that to the next toss

You can do this for literally everything that has ever happened or not happened. What ever the result you can always reverse engineer the cause. And you will always think you are right because the thing happened (or didn’t)!
