@lukaszwalasek.bsky.social, @hohwy.bsky.social, Antonio Verdejo-Garcia and I published an article in Decision on the relationships between time preferences, impulsivity, and self-control. We were invited by the APA to write a non-technical snippet about it here: www.growkudos.com/publications...

I am very excited to share our new preprint together with @Isabella Goodwin, @Kelly Diederen, @Emily Hird, @veithweilnhammer.bsky.social, and @Marta Garrido! Where does predictive processing stand in psychosis research - revisiting Sterzer et al (2018) seven years later. 🧠🔍? osf.io/preprints/ps...

Congrats to Marishka Mehta on her new chapter! She did a great job summarizing the current state of the field and important future directions. link.springer.com/chapter/10.1... "Computational Approaches for Uncovering Interoceptive Mechanisms in Psychiatric Disorders and Their Biological Basis"

Dignity is a very important ethical concept, but a dangerously fuzzy one, which puts into question whether and how we can honour our obligations to treat people with dignity! Our new study detangles dignity and respect, by showing dignity has specific ties to humiliation.

What does it mean to treat someone with dignity, as opposed to, say, treating them with respect? This experiment successfully tests the philosophical theory that ties dignity specifically to humiliation. My article on the Mind/Body Problem for the MIT Open Encyclopaedia of Cognitive Science is now live: oecs.mit.edu/pub/7fjwb5k3...

Don't miss our thoughts about how #Mind_Blanking relates to aspects of spontaneous thinking, together with @parboulakis.bsky.social! #consci

What kinds of people are drawn to meditation? Excited to share the first paper from my PhD (w/ @ntvandam.bsky.social and Luke Smillie) now out in Mindfulness (doi.org/10.1007/s126...) Across 2 samples, we examined personality predictors of meditation and related constructs (1/3)

🎓 Announcing Janis Phelps! 🎓 Dr Phelps, world-leader in psychedelic-assisted therapist training, is an educator in Australia's first university-accredited course on Psychedelic Science. 📢 Starts Soon. ENROL NOW! ➡️ www.monash.edu/psychedelic-science #PsychedelicEducation #University

Exciting postdoc opportunity in our lab! We'll use fMRI and computational modeling to investigate the role of NMDA-receptor function on predictive processing in visual cortex. karriere.upk.ch/Postdoc-100-...

A very insightful update on predictive processing accounts of psychosis and an excellent analysis of current challenges as well as directions for future research. Great work!

How insanely fortunate am I to work with such a group of brilliant minds!

The open access version of A Drive to Survive is now available to download for free! direct.mit.edu/books/oa-mon... (If you've already read the preprint, I'd really appreciate a download of the official version... for the *metrics*) - also it has way less typos.

Another great episode from the crew at @mindsmatter.bsky.social

Frame and relevance problems from the perspective of predictive processing - new paper led by @monash-m3cs.bsky.social's Tom Darling #philsky www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Check out this fabulous paper led by @bethfisher.bsky.social with @christopherjwhyte.bsky.social on optimism bias! @monash-m3cs.bsky.social

Lovely/comprehensive review of metacognition and functional neurological disorder; a condition that demands a metacognitive interpretation: doi.org/10.1093/brai... The emerging picture aligns with findings in psychopathology more broadly—metacognitive performance is often equivalent to controls.

Great work from this excellent @monash-m3cs.bsky.social group!

Excellent paper on chatbots and assertion by my colleagues Iwan Williams and Tim Bayne

I co-edited a special issue on dreaming and mind wandering for @phimisci.bsky.social The first papers are now online. Check them out! And don't hesitate to follow/read this amazing, free & open access journal! 🔬🧠💤💭

Happy to share my second paper with Peter Dayan on our decision-theoretic approach to perceptual multistability (see the tweeprint of the first paper here x.com/neuroprincip...). Paper: A decision-theoretic model of multistability biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Here is a good beginning to a Contemplative Research Starter Pack. Suggestions welcome. I'll try to keep it updated as more people migrate over to the blue sky 🙏 #contemplativeresearch #contemplativescience #mindfulness #meditation #yoga #breathwork #psychedelics go.bsky.app/StDaiA6

New paper: I explore the possibility of integrating enactivism and the Free Energy Principle to address life and mind. I examine some of the arguments in favour and against their integration, and claim that something close to it is possible. link.springer.com/chapter/10.1... #philosophy #philsky

My paper proposing that we develop self-representation in a series of discontinuous developmental steps, based on ideas from Bayes and Susan Carey is out in Front in Hum Neurosci "How to grow a self: development of self-representation in the Bayesian brain" www.frontiersin.org/journals/hum...

Interesting study on the computational role of prior probability in perceptual choices, finding that priors change the accumulation rate of evidence rather than the baseline. Nicely in line with work by @clarepress.bsky.social & @danieljamesyon.bsky.social: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... 🧠🤖 🧠🟦

A Drive to Survive now has a cover! Thanks to my friend Toby Logan saving the day with his design skills. Unfortunately the release has been delayed another two months, but the pre-print can be downloaded here osf.io/preprints/ps... or I’m happy to email a PDF to anyone interested!
