www.texastribune.org/2025/05/24/t... 🤦🏻‍♀️can’t make this stuff up.

Former primary school teacher and WWII historian Masatoshi Asari has sent cherry trees around the world from his base in Hokkaido, in part to help atone for Japan's actions during the war.

About 240,000 Ukrainians who were granted temporary protected status by the Biden administration could be deported in weeks as part of a crackdown on migrants

I needed this laugh. #proudVTer

This is very good advice for scientists who are now dipping their toes for the first time into organizing, or into speaking out. Many things you try will not work. You just have to keep trying things. The best resistance is positive persistence. 🧪

DOGE's funding is up to $40MM, @ProPublica.org finds And this: "If DOGE is a federal agency, it can’t shield its records from the public. If it’s not an agency, then DOGE’s tens of millions in funding weren’t legally allocated and should be returned, some contend" www.propublica.org/article/doge...

Thousands protest Elon Musk’s DOGE in NYC on Presidents’ Day

It’s been buried in all the news today, but every scientist in the US should pay attention to this: Mike Lauer went out on a limb for us all, sending out a memo saying institutes should start awarding grants. And it looks like Trump/Musk fired him for that. 🧪

An astonishing thing happened yesterday at the Justice Department, one that surpassed even the biggest firing scandal of the Nixon era. The Department and its leaders are reeling, and the political repercussions are now rippling out. My write-up: https://buff.ly/41h7EMv

A great link shared with me and I’m forwarding along. Good stuff! constitutioncenter.org

Happy to report that APA wrote this letter, gathered a coalition across science, and will now pay for ads for it to be disseminated in Science and Chronicle of Higher Ed to spread the word!! unitedsciencealliance.org

"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all." Arthur C. Clarke

This work is too important not to share! Glad the authors are pushing to still get it peer-reviewed and published. 🧪

In a strongly-worded letter to Catholic bishops in the United States, Pope Francis is taking to task the Trump Administration's stance on migrants, and that he's following what he calls a "major crisis" with the initiation of mass deportation.

People are doing things. You will meet those people when you start doing things. The easiest form of advocacy is for you to pressure your representatives to oppose the Musk takeover and destruction of our federal agency infrastructure. (Blueprint enclosed)

Folks the single number one thing you should demand from your Senators when you are making calls is that they start objecting to unanimous consent. It only takes a single Senator to do it and if they start objecting, it will grind Trump's fascist takeover to a halt.
