Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) insisted that President Donald Trump's attack on Iran made him more determined to pass a bill that could strip health care from more than 10 million Medicaid recipients.

The thing about the Khalil case is that it's very very good that he's free now but you can't have it take three months between "the government kidnaps you off the street for no basis reason whatsoever" and "a judge makes them let you go." You just can't.

JENA, La. (AP) — Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil has been released from an immigration jail after 104 days in custody.

Today, my NIH colleagues and I did something scary but really important. We spoke up about egregious harms we are seeing happen to research participants and public health through thoughtless and politicized policies at NIH. 🧵1/3 apnews.com/article/nih-...

The foundation for justifying deploying a military against people armed only with courage and rocks was laid by rationalizations of Israel’s actions against Palestinians.

This guy stole $10 million from the employees of his nursing home to buy himself a luxury yacht and Cartier watches. He PLED GUILTY. And because his Mom gave Trump $1 million, he just got a pardon. And this story barely makes the news today. WTF. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/27/u...

Harvard correctly understands that it’s in a fight for its life and there is no appeasement that will save it. I wish a lot more institutions understood this.

The problem is not that we have too many people on Medicaid. the problem is we don't have enough people on Medicaid.

WOW. The Trump admin said they will review social media and deny immigration benefits to people saying antisemitic claims. They're even trying to deport people with green cards on alleged claims of antisemitism. Anyway, here's a tweet from an Afrikaner they flew here on Monday.

I had a very easy peer-to-peer with UHC today and a tiny part of me is wondering if they're realizing how much time and effort they personally waste with these frivolous denials. Only a tiny part, though.

"Masked security forces captured an opposition leader in the coastal province of New Jersey as regime officials continue their months-long crack-down against pro-democracy elements in the embattled United States. The arrest comes as the regime issued calls for summary detentions without trial."

Finally, a sensible economic policy.

Get ready to start talking about Medicaid a lot.

NEW: A federal judge raised alarm Friday that the Trump administration appeared to have deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with "no meaningful process" — even as her father was fighting to keep her in the country. Details w/ @joshgerstein.bsky.social www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

In the wake of what Judge Dugan did (100% legal), now is a good time for everyone to know what she knows: An immigration or administrative warrant is *not* a judicial warrant. You are not obliged to obey it. Indeed, you can let the person out the back door. docs.google.com/presentation...

This should be a huge story

This is both hopeful and devastating. There are so many things (thinking especially about smaller, less popular research studies) that have already been destroyed and are never coming back.

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

Mahmoud Khalil’s wife, Dr. Noor Abdalla, gave birth to their first child today, a baby boy. In a statement, she said, “My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud. ICE and the Trump administration have stolen these precious moments from our family…”

Harvard stood up to the bully — and the bully blinked

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

Love to see faculty standing with their students and calling on the administration to act. philosophy.columbia.edu
