All of this is underpinned by the idea that the public sector is wasteful, which is false. The public service ensures that everybody - even the 'difficult' customers - are taken care of. That's not a fault of the public sector but a benefit. And the whole point.

Personally, I am hopeful that my institution will stand up. On a broader level, I hope universities are finding their courage, understanding the stakes, and taking action.
