Today's teaching win: Students were working on a problem for about 20 minutes until I told them class is almost over. They didn't want to leave and they didn't want to be told the answer, so they stayed after class until they got it.

Pro-tip: If you have to do a 2,000 word essay, just submit two pictures because a picture is worth 1,000 words.

Have you ever wondered why perpendicular lines have slopes that are opposite reciprocals of each other? Here's how we can think about it!

Thank you, Minnesota math teachers! It is a huge honor to share with you. I swear, I feel like I am my happiest self when I am in the Midwest.

What an honor it was to do a joint keynote with Graham Fletcher at the Minnesota math leadership symposium. The people of Minnesota are giving me another reason why I absolutely love the Midwest.

Dreams really do come true! I am so happy to announce that I am now a math instructor at The University of Minnesota! Go Golden Gophers! I didn't get a job here or anything. I'm just a math instructor physically on their campus.

I turned my most boring math lesson into one of my most engaging ones. Here's how:

This pattern with infinite series is not a coincidence. Also, 1+2+4+8+...=-1??? (I don't have a good title for this one but I think it's good lol)

Evaluating fractional exponents

I started doing this thanks to Howie’s posts, and it made a big impact on how my students felt about test taking!

For the first 5 minutes of a test, I tell students to put their writing utensils on the ground, I hand out the test, and they can talk to each other while holding the tests. Students shared how much this lowers their testing anxiety and you hear some of the best mathematical conversations.

Science has "the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell." If math had one iconic line, what would it be?
