Some amazing views flying from DOH up via Turkey back to the UK.

Congratulations, @tgamblin.bsky.social! LLNL’s Todd Gamblin named an HPC-AI Vanguard by insideHPC insidehpc.com/2025/02/vang... #HPC #AI

Imagine being at the leading edge of both #AI and #QuantumComputing … #Microsoft #Majorana #QPU

When researchers from 🇯🇵 🇮🇳 🇺🇸 🇩🇿 🇺🇦 🇷🇴 🇧🇷 🇬🇧 🇯🇲 🇳🇿 et. al meet - #SCIENCE #HPC #AI happens 🥰😇 Thank you #MulticoreWorld Nicolás Erdödy for bringing us all together! Such a gathering where 🧠s from diff. countries meet & brainstorm scientific solutions - matters! @cflorina.bsky.social @hpcnotes.bsky.social

Sunset on the way into SYD

EK A380 leaving CHC

Leaving sunny Christchurch and #MW25NX now - onwards to the next country and set of meetings. Great to see old friends, some people in-person for the first time, meet new people etc. Really high quality of speakers and talks. Already looking forward to next year. #HPC #AI

Rio Yokota of Institute of Science Tokyo (new name for Titech) giving an update on #LLM work using #supercomputers in Japan at #MW25NZ mixed with an excellent overall discussion of wider international #AI evolution and advances #HPC

The problem with Seymour Cray’s infamous quote “would you rather have two oxen or 1000 chickens to plough a field” is that he failed to take into account that the 1000 would grow to a million chickens. #HPC #supercomputer #Cray #MW25NZ

Fascinating talk by Jeffrey Vetter of ORNL on the potential of using #AI to port #HPC codes to new platforms or to generate HPC code. Some surprisingly good results (eg competitive to vendor tuned BLAS libs) but still plenty of work to go yet. #MW25NZ

Anyone else think the 2025 #F1 cars seem to have many more logos / much more density of logos than previous years?

Good talk by Sunita Chandrasekaran (@sunitachandra.bsky.social) on optimising science capability with #AI using the example of improving simulations of instabilities in plasma by introducing #ML into the workflow with benefits including helping reduce data volumes #MW25NZ #HPC

My bathroom scales are very generous … … they add a 10% tip to my weight every time!

Simon McIntosh-Smith (@simonmcs.bsky.social) of Bristol talking at #MW25NZ about computer architectures and building #AI #supercomputers quickly #HPC

Amal Gueroudji from Argonne presenting on the convergence of #HPC and #ML workflows for scientific computing #MW25NZ #AI

Really good explainer on state and future of Digital Twins and especially graph representations for #digitaltwins by Karen Wilcox, Director of Oden Institute #MW25NZ #HPC #ComputationalScience #ComputationalEngineering

My talk yesterday addressed Hyperion's question when/if a #hyperscaler will take #1 spot on #Top500 - likely with an #ai #supercomputer ... I did answer the question but the audience aren't allowed to share my answer! You have to be at #MW25NZ to hear such things :-) #HPC

Olga Pearce from LLNL giving a talk on #benchmarking for #HPC at #MW25NZ Proposing a specification for running HPC benchmarks - benchpark - to help automation, reuse, reproducibility, tracking, etc.

#HPC and other scientific computing folks should like this image ... it's a floating point 😀 #FP64 #FLOPS

Kate Keahey from Argonne talking about Edge Infrastructures for #AI research - building scientific instruments using combinations of edge and #cloud #MW25NZ

When you go to log on to the wifi at a conference venue and you are surprised to find your laptop and phone are already connected because they remembed the connection details from last year.

First up after lunch is Kevin A Brown of Argonne talking about actionable modsim for #HPC infrastructure #MW25NZ

Rupak Biswas from NASA giving an entertaining talk about #HPC at NASA and how it impacts everything from space missions to daily life on Earth. #MW25NZ

Fun start to #MW25NZ with Dan Stanzione from TACC presenting a view on how modern #AI came out of the #HPC world

We need more (compute) power Scotty! 😀 My talk later today will discuss planning, deploying and operating large #supercomputing infrastructures for #AI or for traditional #HPC workloads. It's all about integers, computing quantum, and broken Booleans, not necessarily FP64 :-)

Some great views flying into Christchurch yesterday afternoon

Nice views over Sydney at sunrise arriving on #qantas #a380 yesterday morning

Arrived to a very pleasant sunny Sunday afternoon in Christchurch ready for #HPC conversations tomorrow.
