Thanks, yes whole trip so far has been packed. Don’t see much of Canberra on this trip. Good conversations tho.

I was … back at SYD now on my way out of Aus again :-)

Just one day of meetings in Canberra, then onwards

The A380 is a technological marvel - and is excellent as a passenger - but it’s not an aesthetic winner. I think the A350 is the best passenger aircraft now. But the 747 is/was iconic and nothing can replace that.

Yup

Ah, but that’s an algorithm challenge, not a hardware one :-)

It’s a repeated sad flaw of the world of HPC (especially academic / national lab) - recognition (or jobs) often assume PhDs as a basic need - but actually many of the most impactful people in our community don’t have PhDs.

I wrote a little text to accompany this slide. It sums up the hour-long presentation in just a few words. www.glennklockwood.com/garden/diffe... #HPC #AI

Some great thoughts from Kevin on how research is/can be done as well as good discussion of challenges of discrete event simulation for computing.

Ha! The was the first or second image. I kept iterating and have (I think) a better one in my actual slides. The slides will be posted. Not sure about the recording yet.

The was the first or second image. I kept iterating and have (I think) a better one in my actual slides. Interesting that this attempt has one of the persons watching as nearly a twin of the person pushing the rack.

Ok so far

In that case I shall reserve the right to judge you for judging my use of GenAI 😂. Hopefully it works, and the talking should matter more than the slides, but let’s see!

Ha! One of the iterative loops I had was getting the text I wanted into the image properly. Took a while but did it. For other images that aren’t about the text itself, it’s no more or less nonsense than random non-AI images some people use for slide decoration that are “merely illustrative” :-)
