California educators: CalSTRS invests in Tesla. It's YOUR pension fund, and you have the right to demand that we divest from a co. led by a man that is trying to kill public education. The next board meeting is on March 12, and you can submit a public comment, here: www.calstrs.com/public-comment

I’m glad Labour is supporting these workers, who are at risk of losing 400 jobs. Would be nice if they were also supporting university workers, where 10,000 jobs are at risk. In the first week of February alone 1,000 job cuts were announced. Nothing from Labour at all in response.

Would really love the centrists and FBPE types to look into Fry’s comments defending transphobia and his friendliness with literal fascists and white supremacists before lauding him here. He’s part of the problem, and so is your uncritical lionising of him.

Sunday day dream #HouseGawp - castle, two cottages (one ruined) and a gatehouse, oh, and a sawmill. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/1...

Neurologist/Neuroscientist Q: ~10yrs ago there was a now infamous thread on reddit about a guy who (spoilers) thinks his landlord is breaking in, turns out it's CO poisoning. Recently I'm seeing pushback, claims that the thread was "clearly & obviously" a fake - is that the case? (soz for source)

trillion dollar industry that will revolutionize everything

As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

This is absolutely fascinating, I've not seen these before and had no idea about this debate > BBC News - 'Amateur and dangerous': Historians weigh in on viral AI history videos www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Looking for vegetarian hints for Oslo; offerings look non-existant or boring in 90% of places where I can find a menu online. Price point irrelevant, but please only personal experience, I know how to use google and that Happy Cow exists! Doesn't have to be 100% veggie, just 1+ good option will do.

I like that my mid-range financial decisions now include considerations like "will money be worth anything"

As a senior digital person in Higher Education, the thing i have to drill into everyone is that young people lie constantly on surveys. Surveys are a game to be won, by saying the thing they think the old people want them to say. They're not even conscious they're doing it. /1

The very first thing I got professionally published in 2016 was directly addressing this very thing. Since then the media class have made it very clear that I can go fuck myself, working class actually does mean "racist" and they will not be changing, thanks.

#OtD 23 Feb 1864 300 female collar laundry workers at 14 firms went on strike in Troy, NY demanding pay increases of 20-25%, and better health and safety. After less than a week, they won stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9...

If you need a regular timeline cleanse, a reminder that there’s a whole subculture on here that consists of small bears (and other animals) who sometimes have a beer. Last night a couple of them met up at our epic ladies beer event 🍻

I picked up "How Civil Wars Start" because of couple of skeets by @premeemohamed.com talking about it. It's definitely a lot. I was motivated to write a substantial review summarizing some of the main arguments of the book. Please take a look and I really recommend reading the full book. 💙📚 🗃️

Very hard to explain to non #Seaglass people how incredibly exciting it is to make this discovery in a bag of misc glass I picked up. Rubbish/treasure boundary is so porous

Michael Young coined the phrase "meritocracy" as satire, and then he fathered Toby Young in case people didn't get the joke.

My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some of those things #Thread

Spines spotted. Rare commodity in science these days.

New phrase to help identify bots:

Having slept on it: I stand by this. The opening scene is the best bit, tonally perfect, the rest is less successful. I think if they’d gone practical for the effects not v. obvious CGI it’d’ve hit that 80s schlock nostalgia beat better. Also inexcusably bad/unnecessary CGI for horseman at end.

I’ve only read one murderbot book (i enjoyed it, just … wasn’t my thing enough to repeat the experience with farther books) & it wasn’t until the casting announcement that I realised I had imagined them to be female.

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue: 1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance 2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion 3. Don't live post resistance meetings

In a crushing blow to free speech, the University of Cambridge is asking a High Court for an injunction *through February 2030* to arrest anyone who protests on certain properties "in connection with Cambridge for Palestine or otherwise for a purpose connected with the Palestine-Israel Conflict."

Immediate The Monkey review: underwhelming. Not at all creepy, and the gore was ludicrously unrealistic cartoony rather than squirmy or uncomfortable. Vaguely suspect monkey is a metaphor but as it was all about men my lady brain couldn’t quite comprehend. Dumb fun, will never think about it again.

Zoom's AI Companion (which I *never* enabled), sent me wildly hallucinated summary of mtg, ironically w/colleagues discussing AI & ethics. This tool was turned on w/Zoom update & intruded on a private pre-mtg convo....FFS....fund our institutes/initiatives on ethical tch to deal w/shit like this!

Zero regrets for committing to an 8-4 working pattern today. Viva la weekend.

Uk Weather nerds, how come we have a yellow alert for wind on Sunday and nothing for today when the gust strength & average speeds are the same?

I am so, so, so tired of this high winds thing. Dark, dreary, windy. It rots your morale (and ruins trampolines everywhere)

Sinn Fein will not attend White House on Principle. Party leader Mary Lou McDonald said the party was making the move “as a principled stance against the threat of mass expulsion of the Palestinian people from Gaza”. ( @marylousf.bsky.social ) www.thejournal.ie/sinn-fein-ma...
