This driver, who sped almost *three times* the 30mph speed limit, who stopped briefly but drove off despite leaving a pedestrian with a catalogue of serious injuries resulting in them being comatose, should never be allowed behind the wheel again.

There was a post on Reddit about how a driver had stopped at a traffic light and then had been surrounded by a group of feral teens who started trying to get into the car etc. One commenter suggested just running them over, to which another claimed they'd get done for it. Odds say no they won't.

Suspended sentence? I watched a ‘true crime’ type programme on tv last night. A guy who hit someone with a crowbar got 9 years even though the victim ‘only’ received treatment in a&e.
& as for 5 year driving ban. Why should he ever be allowed behind the wheel again?

That's presumably a function of the sentencing guidelines, though I can't help but wonder what, barring incarceration, would actually enforce this ban effectively? And that isn't sustainable, because they'd likely repeat as soon as they appear.
