How many research projects is too many research projects? Asks the woman too bogged down by daily tasks to actually make any progress on any of them…

Really excited about our new venture with The Heritage Lab: please circulate to any scholars or institutions you think would be a good fit for this project, which looks specifically at South Asian art, history and culture. Please feel free to DM me any questions! wikimedia.org.uk/2025/02/heri...

The way they hired staff and recruited students beyond what could be accommodated when I was there. Now the bubble has burst due to no fault of staff and here we are. The people who run our universities are idiots and we need a new system of governance.

The crash is beginning in academia.

#Medieval records reveal that transgender people existed long before modern medicine or assumptions about gender. An English literature scholar has been diving into 14th-century archives: By Sarah Barringer, University of Iowa 🩺 🗃️ #histsci https://buff.ly/3EGttMl

The sad thing is that email and admin have taken over academic life so much that many of us have to squeeze in the poisoning of minds on evenings and weekends.

It feels like we’re living in an alternate reality

"Overall, coming a day after the government's plans to radically shrink the National Science Foundation, it's difficult to read this as anything other than an attempt to crush scientific research in the US."

Who should have access to medieval manuscripts? Digitisation opens doors to students and teachers worldwide (among anyone else who is interested in them) Parker Library On the Web - 200,000 images, all available online, for free www.corpus.cam.ac.uk/articles/tea... #PLOW #ParkerLibrary

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests. We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason. ALSO.

I had been saving the last book in the series I’ve been reading - for what, I don’t know. Time to read it ❤️

Very excited about reading this! I'm currently doing research on the Annals of Clonmacnoise so I think this will pair nicely. #medievalsky

Who will be harmed by President Trump’s lawless and unconstitutional OMB directive? Kids enrolled in Head Start. Senior citizens who rely on Meals on Wheels. And countless American families.

This medieval monk and I have our priorities straight.

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want our own castle on the coast, an endless supply of emotional support pastries, and a bookshelf with a rolling ladder?

Books show people another world is possible

Shutting down medical research — not just within NIH, but everywhere that’s funded by NIH — will have long-term effects on medicine & short-term effects on state, higher education & hospital budgets. This affects all of us, not just researchers.

Weird that we have to say this, but the government doesn’t get to decide what gender a person is.

I know this hardly needs to be said to this crowd, but: the “Roman Salute” is a modern, fascist invention.

Want a distraction? Our new podcast episode “The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn” is now available everywhere podcasts can be found! Take a listen and give us a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review on Apple Podcasts.

These are very good suggestions, but a few key ones are missing: attend library board mtgs and speak in favor (many are on zoom), donate $, and vote for measures and bonds to increase funding. Patrons have real power. Don't let a handful of bigots destroy your library.

How does one not get completely burned out by work and life and the state of the world? I want to want to write and research but I'm just so tired.

Just started reading this beauty.

Can't imagine young people will be too bummed about tik tok being banned when they remember they can always crack open a good book

At the moment, I'm not reading in front of a crackling fire in a Scottish Highlands cottage during a raging snowstorm whilst enjoying a plate of emotional support scones, so no, I'm afraid your email did not "find me well."

Sobering but a reflection of many convos I've had in the last year: "I used to joke with colleagues that higher education is besieged on two fronts: by fascists on one side and neoliberals on the other. As we look ahead to a second Trump administration, these two threads appear ready to converge."

Someone is allergic to me going to work

Every educational, academic, and cultural institution in Gaza where I studied, worked, or attended a conference or event—every theater, every archive, every historic landmark and site—has been completely destroyed. They no longer exist.

This is a manuscript illustration of the death of the antichrist dating from the 15th century. It was created by an anonymous author using a woodcut that was then colored. It is currently located in the Albertina Collection in Vienna.

Very excited to have written the featured article in edition 22 of The Historians Magazine entitled “Sir Christopher Wren: England’s Renaissance Man?”!

Sure you've seen the famous #BayeuxTapestry, but have you seen it in all its sensational high-res thread-glory? Breathtaking online resource, a joint effort of the City of Bayeux, DRAC Normandie, Fabrique de patrimoines en Normandie, University of Caen, & CNRS: www.bayeuxmuseum.com/en/the-bayeu...

How about ynstead of pouringe a ton of moneye ynto A.I. we just funde public educacioun and use the bookes we alreadye have that it ys being trained upon?

Library purchases are purchases. They pay the press. The press counts them towards advances and royalties. And (gasp) the book is in a library!! It’s wonderful and no one should ever feel bad about getting a book through a library instead of buying it.

New book haul for the new year! @lollardfish.bsky.social @profgabriele.com

Spending the day alternating between watching Downton Abbey, the White Princess, video games, and researching medieval popes. Successful Boxing Day 👍

In 1659, the the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted a law that declared that Christmas was sacrilege and exchanging of gifts, greetings, and wearing fine clothing on that day was Satanic. Anyone caught celebrating was fined 5 shillings. (About 5 days wages.) The "War on Christmas" was an inside job.

I originally misread the middle speech bubble as "I bring good cheese", & I was immediately hooked.

Merry Christmas Eve from Chester and Bert! 🎄

Happy holidays from everyone here at Medieval Murder! To celebrate the holidays we’re doing a special episode covering some of our favorite Medieval and Early Modern Holiday Traditions and folktales including the Icelandic Yule Lads, Krampus, the Yule Log, and Hogmanay.  #medievalsky

Guilty pleasure: watching Angels and Demons, drinking sangria, and waiting for the brownies to finish baking.

I love this time of year because my brain gives me permission to stop worrying about work and life and just read ❤️ 📚
