There's no such thing as an ironic Nazi salute.

“Our closest ally, the United States, is now supporting Russia, removing itself from the defence of Europe and the UK..We've got to make the defence of our country our top priority" @eddavey.libdems.org.uk

I keep seeing DEI being called an ideology when it is not, and the white supremacy that is replacing it not being called an ideology, when it really is. That shit goes back centuries.

I'm not having Fraser Nelson playing dumb on the rise of racism on the right after years spent printing Murray, Liddle, Taki and Shriver. I literally had a DM row with him years ago where I said this would happen.

Watching people who used to bleat about accusations of racism choose between being blatantly racist or clutching their pearls at all the blatant racism they enabled is not as much fun as you might think. (See also Donald Trump & fascism.)

Did you see what we did there? 👀

You have to wonder whether he ever read the magazine he edited. Once again, the Andrew Neil chapter in How They Broke Britain sets the scene rather well…

Far-right polemicists like Douglas Murray help elevate populist arseholes like Trump to positions of power. His saying a good thing once - because the leopards he supported are threatening a group he likes - should not result in reasonable journos forming an orderly queue to guzzle his ballsack.

Nelson correctly says that of course Sunak is English, but absolutely misses his part in shaping the rhetoric we have now which makes the "unthinkable" questions mainstream.

It’s called Gleichschaltung. And German history shows us where it can end. Again: we have the knowledge; we have the right words. That the US could still get to this point is such a terrible failure.

🔶 Only the Liberal Democrats can take control of Shropshire Council from the Conservatives in May. #letsfixshropshire #68daystofixshropshire

If the United States is willing to extort with Starlink, assume AWS, Google, and Azure clouds are next. Ukraine today, whose turn is it tomorrow? Any US technology is now a liability. We need European solutions as fast as possible.

The leader of France’s far-right quit CPAC over Nazi ideology. Meanwhile, Farage happily embraces the Nazi at the same event. Says a lot about champagne fascist Farage. #ukpolitics

Oh, come on. The Conservative Party helped destroyed those places by austerity and Brexit, which together hollowed out local government, abolished RDAs and lost the country Structural Funds. But, sure, let’s pretend it’s all about immigration

It shouldn’t be a question. If you’re asked it, the only answer should be, fuck off. But I guess you couldn’t stretch that to a Times op-ed.

What's the difference between firing someone "for DEI" and firing them because they are Black?

This ought to be top of the UK government's thinking re Palantir's role in the NHS. The dependency risk is not theoretical under Trump 2.0

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

So Soviet.

Media shying away from calling things what they are will be our downfall if this continues. What this should say is: Bannon whipped up CPAC crowd by talking about possibility of Trump unconstitutionally staying in office for third term—and concluded his speech with a Nazi salute like Musk did.

Hard to describe what it's like being in Kyiv, surrounded by brilliant, unshakeable, brave Ukranians, and reading Trump's comments. The free world deserves a better leader, the hill deserves a better city upon it, and these people deserve better friends.

Zelensky is perhaps the defining figure of our age. Brave, ingenious, pragmatic and defined by his convictions. They hate him because he kills fascists.

We've reached the point when European neo-Nazis are no longer comfortable being publicly associated with American neo-Nazis.

Honestly, this is an insane thing for a major political party to be running with. It’s mad. It’s by mad people for mad people.

Absolutely @eddavey.libdems.org.uk

Godstone sinkholes: or why understanding histories and archaeology of place really matters.

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

Movies you’ve watched more than six times, using only gifs. Disclaimer: Any resemblance to real persons, living, dead, hanging out in the Oval Office or wielding chainsaws is purely coincidental.

“Over the last 10 years in England, the number of killed and seriously injured (KSI) casualties has increased in the most deprived decile, whereas in the least deprived decile rates have decreased. This deprivation-injury relationship is particularly prevalent among young pedestrians and cyclists”

Anyways, so this is whose podcast Maurice Glasman is happy to appear on. And yet people think he should have some voice in Labour politics?

If you want to step away from doom scrolling and reinvigorate your mind this is well worth making time to see. www.theguardian.com/culture/2024... findavenue.ntlive.com

Overnight news: Trump has again raised the idea of a third term in office. Bannon has given a Nazi salute. No need to worry obviously- they’re just trolling the libs

America: how it’s changed. The 46th President of the United States called Vladimir Putin “a murderous dictator.” The 47th President called Volodymyr Zelensky “a dictator without elections.”

Liz Truss at CPAC. Never has the phrase "tickets still available" been more applicable.

" a provocative gesture that resembled the controversial salute Elon Musk gave" - you know who else did the same "controversial salute" as Elon Musk? The Nazis. Call it what it is, a Nazi salute, rather than making out somehow Musk is the only person to have made it? Stop dancing around it.
