"Felicity Wade, the national co-convener of the Labor Environment Action Network, was confident Watt could “walk the line”, listening to business without losing sight of why the legislation existed." Not exactly words that inspire confidence... #EPBC

Can’t believe this is finally happening after 2 years of hard work by so many people! #ICCB2025

@hugepossum.bsky.social reminds us it's critical to determine what the management actions are to save threatened species, and then we need to prioritize those actions, & consider the costs of the actions #ICCB2025

AUKUS: I cannot recall any other government policy around which there has been so much condemnation from so many voices across the defence and security spectrum, for the governments of both persuasions to so blithely ignore that opposition. These are people who know what they’re talking about.

Alarming in so many ways - the USA’s “unseriousness” laid bare (is unseriousness really a word?) www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06...

Why isn’t nuclear energy a good option as we transition away from fossil fuels? As @hugepossum.bsky.social said to Steve Austin on ABC Brisbane, it could have been if we started in the 1970’s, but we are 50 years too late to start down that path today.

The reality is foxes and cats contributed to extinctions of Australian mammals and continue to threaten rare species through predation. I'm not sure questioning their role is helpful for conservation. theconversation.com/extinctions-...

Enjoying the @birdlifeoz.bsky.social AGM in Melbourne - Mandy giving a report after second year as President and Kate Millar as CEO. Many stories of on ground impact and successful advocacy. We are determined to ensure that there will be no more Australian bird extinctions.

The transition to renewable energy is essential to tackling the climate crisis, but without “smart planning” and consultation, important natural habitats, agricultural land and cultural values could be destroyed. @hugepossum.bsky.social #renewables #climatechange

Congratulations to our Co-Chief Councillor @hugepossum.bsky.social for being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society—one of science’s highest honours! 🎉 He’s been recognised for pioneering work in ecology and conservation and using maths to solve some of nature’s biggest challenges 🌿

This is a great idea. Attending an international conference for the first time as a student who hasn't achieved high level of English proficiency yet can be really intimidating. Perhaps psychology conference organizers can do something similar to help first-time attendees?

The question for Labor is will they pursue bold reform, or keep the status quo? "There's a risk of not taking advantage of a once in a generation opportunity," – @richarddenniss.bsky.social "Breaking a promise, shifting stage 3 tax cuts to low income earners was one of the most popular changes."
