I despise the use of the phrase "start a family"! Everyone already has (probably) multiple families! A family of origin, a family of friends, maybe a work family. Just say "have children"! It's clear and to the point.

I find one of the striking features of the baby boom in the late 1940's is how much is really a baby bust in the 1930's and earlier. Most countries simply returned to pre-bust levels of fertility.

Are the birth rates age adjusted? Seems like they need to be. Unless the age distribution by occupation is similar across occupations.

Be sure to check out the comic strip Frazz this past week (Feb. 16) to understand the difference between a pie chart and a bar chart!

I am never sure if the answer is an ideal number of children for "my" family versus is it an answer for society as a whole?
comment in response to
post
One possible approach for subjects not giving a numerical answer is to impute a numerical number based on matching cases that do give a numerical answer. Hot deck, model based estimation, or probabilistic matching are all possibilities. And probably others.

I don't read Spanish (even English can stump me) but I think it might be on something called RD3?

My apologies. I figure a race date is a pretty obvious item on a list of races.
comment in response to
post
The main list is nice but it doesn't show the date of the race until you click through!
comment in response to

Has anyone published a list showing broadcast sources of racing by country? Not finding one yet, but I thought someone at Escape was doing one.
comment in response to

Go to the race but find a place where you stream it on a device. We did that at Worlds last year when we couldn't find a spot to see the men's elite race.

Sorry, by "announcer" I meant the original poster, derek van vlietβ¬. Unfortunately Bluesky replies only show the post one is replying to, at least on my tablet that is all I can see. So announcer is definitely the wrong noun in this instance. π€

Ahhhh... but some of the less informed fans might not be following #josebeentv ! So you get a plug from the announcers.

I have the same issue on my 500px.com account. Full frame images, not portrait necessarily but they are cropped, although I am looking at resizing after cropping.
comment in response to

Do you have any idea why pictures are cropped at the top and bottom on posts, until viewers click on them? At least that is the case for me in an Android tablet.

Just in case it isn't obvious, the geography/GIS people do a lot of work on population and climate changes, including the WorldPop people.

At 2 municipalities for each of 777 local labor markets, that is 1554. That leaves about a thousand municipalities unaccounted for.

It depends on the denominator. If the total population is just "the left" then Matt is saying he is in the right most 10% of the left. If the denominator is everyone then he is to the right of the left but left of the right. Personally I dislike the concept of a continuum left-right.

I did cancel my eX-twitter account and I am considering canceling my Instagram account because of all the unwanted posts I am exposed to. I think this Bluesky place may be sufficient for my social interests and LinkedIn for my volunteer activities. πββοΈ

Not that I agree with it, but tax cuts, deregulation and limiting immigration. But the Democrats didn't offer any future vision at all. So too many Democrats stayed home. Turnout for Democrats was nearly 9.4 percent below expectations.
comment in response to
post
You and me both. I spent much of the day watching Castle reruns. But it came about because Democrats didn't present a decent vision for the future. Election campaigns need to be at least 70 percent about the future. Just pointing out how bad the other side is doesn't yield turnout necessary to win.

What about stories of how races are put on by the organizers? I'm always interested in how things work!

The beauty of reading on a kindle! Just tap and get the definition. I must have done it 5 times on my 3.5 hour flight that just landed. No search bar needed.

Be sure to view Neil Young's movie, "Heart of Gold". I believe he mentions that his acoustic guitar is from Hank Williams Sr. I never cease to be amazed at Young's talent! He plays 5 instruments during the show.
