Most cruise liners are not transcontinental, they mostly sail around their own waters for the most part. Ocean liners were meant to cross the distances comfortably and safely.

You just don’t call ships like Titanic, Lusitania, Oceanic, etc a cruise liner because they were not pleasure craft. Ocean liners were basically todays planes that were the major means of transcontinental transport. If you needed to get to Europe, you booked passage aboard a liner.

This is not news, he’s been blathering on about this for the last decade or so and the project has been pushed back multiple times. Its a meme by now. Also there is a huge difference between an ocean liner and a cruise liner.
