applying for jobs again

my AI company is shocked, SHOCKED that all the candidates selected by our AI tool are using AI to do the interview

Some neat renders of the Ontario Line bridge planned to span the Don River and DVP, and how it’ll be assembled in place. Could use more colour, though. (via secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...)

I don't want to hear another word about AI "play" and "experimentation" to develop "nimble" skills in the classroom without this context www.politico.com/news/2025/05...

“The city needs to know that we as citizens really care about this issue... We want it on the front burner, and we’re hoping for some sort of results that really benefit neighbourhoods and shapes the city we want to see.” - @anotherglassbox.bsky.social www.torontotoday.ca/local/policy...

Hi pals, I'm launching a new project today called Show Up Toronto!! It's a website and weekly newsletter that aggregates organizing/advocacy/direct action events in the city so you can find out how to get involved without Insta/FB. First email tomorrow, sign up and tell your friends showuptoronto.ca

Restructure Toronto’s urban design department from the ground up

More evidence that car bloat is killing people: New metaanalysis examined 600k+ crashes over 35 years. Conclusion: Cyclists/pedestrians were 44% more likely to be killed if struck by an SUV/pickup than by a smaller car, and children were 82% more likely. injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/earl...

Reading @brucearthur.bsky.social’s convincing take makes me think that Canada desperately needs proportional representation. Probably the single best way to keep Trumpism at bay here. Carney should deliver what Trudeau promised in 2015. www.thestar.com/politics/pol...

This piece looks at how China’s industrial policy—while effective at scaling production—also drives involution-style competition, marked by overcapacity and unsustainable price-cutting. Contrary to how Beijing is often portrayed, this is not its intended outcome. www.valueadded.tech/p/explaining...

Let this be a warning to you all: nobody steals my charts and gets to be Prime Minister of Canada

The forever-correct way to translate Canadian parties to other countries without using their politics for reference

Most food is transported by boat, so food miles are a relatively small part of the carbon footprint of most diets

the thing that housing supply denialists insist is impossible keeps happening

getting back in my time machine to tell 2010-me that now-Premier (!) Doug (!) Ford (!) is going to urge Mayor Olivia Chow (!) to sole-source a contract for transit vehicles from Thunder Bay, then I'm gonna laugh and laugh and laugh

omg we’ve invented Montreal, a century late

Ontario added 134 km of lanes to Highway 401. Its key bottleneck didn’t get better globalnews.ca/news/1109594...

considering deferring “until he could consult with groups opposed to tighter regulations”. if Councillor Moise had bothered to consult both sides *before* putting up the motion, he wouldn’t have embarrassed himself like this

If he truly cared, he would have consulted with artists/promoters before trying to introduce this motion, but I'm glad he backed down for now nonetheless. Also, this statement is the most Toronto thing ever--making policy by dreaming up the worst-case scenario even though it's never happened.

I do wish it was better understood by now—especially by folks in the media—that these "warnings" from large AI corporations in fact function as "advertisements" www.axios.com/2025/04/22/a...

BREAKING NEWS: We’ve been granted an injunction that will ensure that the bike lanes on Bloor, Yonge, and University will remain in place until the judge presiding over our Charter challenge makes his decision.

Unbelievable. The @nytimes.com reports that Therme was misrepresenting basic aspects of its business - they copied the name of another company and claimed to own its properties. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/w...

Boycotting American food is no longer simply a moral question

Important thread on NYT's reporting on Therme -- what the reporters unvovered and how the Toronto project brings legitimacy to Therme's ambitions elsewhere

Surprise, surprise.

lord, I want this for me

An astronomy professor colleague of mine once relayed trying to explain to his students why it was important that they actually write their class reports themselves. “The point is not to teach ME about neutron stars,” he said.

It was only a matter of time

This is the simplest and perhaps the most important question in urban design. Toronto has been getting it backwards for 20 years.

It's amazing how TTC can take down activists' signs showing better wayfinding in hours when their own outdated signs stay posted for months, even years. www.thestar.com/news/gta/way... @ttcriders.bsky.social

The Austin City Council voted 10-1 to allow up to 5-story, single-stair buildings. Austin joins a growing list of North American cities & states bringing back the once popular building type and allowing more flexibility in the types of housing produced in the City. 📍Austin, TX

This is correct. The TTC removed signs from activists as fast as they could, but leaves decade+ old signs up all over the system.

Volunteers gave King Station a makeover this morning! You shouldn't get lost while taking the #TTC. Learn more and show your support for better TTC information and signs: www.ttcriders.ca/wayfinding
