Norfolk CC ignored warnings, wasted £56M of public funds, and failed to plan a viable Plan B for the Western Link. Blaming bats & Natural England is deflection. We demand accountability & resignations. Norfolk deserves better—enough is enough. www.edp24.co.uk/news/2497154...

We call for a Plan B to tackle congestion west of Norwich—one that prioritises economic sense & environmental care. Protecting the River Wensum SAC & species like barbastelle bats must be central. Let's rethink, reset, & find smarter, sustainable solutions. www.edp24.co.uk/news/2494871...

I’ve grown to, if not exactly love February, to see it as more than just a month of continued darkness and cold. The lengthening days bring subtle changes February is hopeful in spite of itself. Latest country diary with a Ray Mears memory. open.substack.com/pub/thispart...

For anyone interested, here are my reflections on my January book reading and on why it is good to read. open.substack.com/pub/thispart...

Norfolk County Council blaming bats for the NWL fiasco is absurd. This project failed due to mismanagement, zero economic justification, and reckless environmental harm. Taxpayers deserve accountability, not excuses. Norfolk needs leadership that prioritizes people, sustainability, and transparency.

It was an honour to be asked to write a guest blog for Norfolk Wildlife Trust. In it I reflect on the news that the planning application for a destructive new road across sensitive habitat has been withdrawn. www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/blog/guest-b...

Wow! Just wow! Sometimes it’s probably better not to look at the news first thing in the morning.

I joined protestors outside the RCJ today because our politicians continue not only to ignore the evidence of climate breakdown , but accelerate our species collapse with this obsession over growth above all else . No growth on a dead planet , solidarity with the #LordWalney16

🔥 FINALLY! The BBC are finally doing the public education service on Brexit that they always should have. Have a read. 👇👇

That sick orange racist!

I’m fairly certain the Merlin app has aural hallucinations now and again. It identified one of our hens as a little owl.

Three minutes of garden birds according to Merlin

This thread is a brilliant summary of all that is wrong with the government’s current growth vs the environment nonsense. It deserves to be quoted in full to every Labour MP up and down the country.

I know there's nothing more tedious or pompous than public resignations, but I left @teamlabouruk.bsky.social this morning after 20 years. I wrote to my MP and Ed Miliband to explain that expanding airports while talking about SAF, electric planes and CCS is effectively climate science denial…

My strangely eclectic reading so far this January.

What ever the current build, build, build government says...bats are crucial for all of our futures.

‘Sorry, I don’t have time to explain that I didn’t do a Nazi salute - I’m too busy speaking at a German far-right rally’.

ALL the U.S. Inspector Generals that Trump just tried to fire are refusing to leave their post (because he does not have the legal right to fire them) and are telling him to get fucked. Brava.

The wood is brightly lit this morning under post-storm skies. And safe from development for now.

This article is spot on. Starmer is pandering to the wrong crowd with his clumsy rhetoric. I already know of several prople who’ve cancelled their Labour Party membership over this. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

“The government needs to listen to the genuine concerns people have about climate and nature. Let’s have a grown-up and nuanced discussion about carbon capture rather than name calling.” www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Musk practices his moves at X HQ

Norfolk CC falsely blames Natural England for #WesternLink delays. FACT: Mary Creagh's letter proves NE warned for YEARS about the damage to wildlife & poor surveys. The failure? Council’s mismanagement. We demand an inquiry & Cllr Billig's resignation. #StopWensumLink

This is very good news. Another major set back for this destructive project. Many reasons (climate, cost) why it should not proceed. Most of all a rare and small species has been protected in a unique environment against almost inevitable local extinction. Long live the barbastelle bat

The council like to claim they were blindsided by Natural England last year over the Barbastelle Bats, but they have been warned for years, by a variety of experts, concerned landowners, and Natural England. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Some good news on an otherwise bleak day. I’ve been campaigning in various ways for about six years, maybe more, against this road. It has, at times, been exhausting, but I have also found purpose through it and met the most inspiring people. It’s probably not over yet, but for now, some relief!

The @nytimes.com should hire whoever wrote this headline. Seriously!

DI Pumba helped me read this MA Crime Fiction dissertation.

Watching ‘Senna’ on Netflix and weeping with laughter at the track scenes in ‘Norfolk, England’, with its rugged landscape and wild pampas grass! It looks suspiciously like Argentina. Also the journo from the local paper who speaks fluent Portuguese.

They have all the up-to-date current affairs on the BBC website.

We have the little tree up, and it’s Pumba’s first look at it. He avoided castration at the vets on Friday because they found he has a heart murmur. Booking him in for an ECG soon. It’s all a bit worrying.

Reached that point in the academic year when I’m running on vapours and I’m not entirely sure if I’ll get all the way to the Christmas break.

The number of UK universities now actively making redundancies has risen to 85. That number will be will over 100 by spring. I'm afraid this is happening faster, and will be worse, than even I thought. Solidarity and thoughts with and to all affected. qmucu.org/qmul-transfo...

Hats off to Stop the Wensum Link and other campaign groups. Through unwavering dedication, they’ve halted the destructive Norwich Western Link project—a triumph for wildlife, sustainability & smarter alternatives. Proof that grassroots action can drive real change! 🌍🦇 #Sustainability

Norfolk County Council (UK East Anglia) is a dinosaur council that systemically works in the opposite direction to environmental progress Good to see this call for NCC to #StopWensumLink (a devastating road project) @stopwensumlink.bsky.social and align with #COP15 "30by30" commitment 👇
