Cool sleeve design.

I once had a job interview at the Hull University Archives. As their former Librarian, they have a repository of his objects. Amongst those, I was introduced to his glasses and early drafts of his work!

I'm not saying he's the best Avenger or X-Man, or anything like that, but I for one will be forever impressed by the super-ability that empowers these guys to discern the insurance affairs of others using just a meagre glance!

Ah! Excellent. It was open when I visited, but covered in scaffolding so I never got to see its exterior in person!

I’ve been up there! Are they still restoring it?

I'm starting to think my reading choices as a child contributed to me not generally being a twat as an adult.

Dutch stadiums receive many via Cycle and have excellent cycling facilities, unsurprisingly. There's an excellent 1949 photo of Hull City's Boothferry Park featured in this article showing how things were here prior to mass car ownership. www.theguardian.com/cities/2016/...

I'm going to follow both. It may help improve my very poor German skills!

Thank you. Meanwhile, on the other social media site, they share some data about where the real cause of the problem may be.

This. My trust actually does a good job promoting cycling to staff, but this is undermined by terrible surrounding road infra (a 1.5 mile journey from my home is an ordeal)! They're also not great at patients' active travel needs - I get the impression they think they're just too ill to ride?

My wife supplied research for an episode of Great British Railway Journeys. We happened to be walking by during a section of the episode being filmed (Hull’s a small place!) and got the chance to meet him. He had the trousers on!

That’s still a remarkable collection! I inherited many loads from my older cousin but I was slightly too young to appreciate them the first time around and they were lost. Been collecting the odd bit here and there since to try to contextualise half-remembered images!

I’ve been watching these posts for a while. It’s brilliant! Just how many issues of 2000ad do you have btw?

I’d argue more their ‘own way’ than “old way” - although the ends are not dissimilar! They seem to have an inflated opinion that their poorly informed, provisional ideas trump meaningful research, outside expertise, and established good practices. Unsurprisingly, the results look dated!

Oh, realise this! Still, just imagine how glacial the progress of @hullcitycouncil.bsky.social is to make me jealous of things there! They did manage a few crappy schemes that they enthusiastically exaggerated to Active Travel England though! So that’s something! 🤦‍♂️

And I believe its part of the 2nd restructure the university has undergone in 5 years, with long-term dire consequences for the area. It's looking bleak. But at least already affluent Oxbridge is seeing more central investment over dying northern cities.

It's really not like the research sectors in Oxford and Cambridge aren't doing well as it is. Meanwhile, @universityofhull.bsky.social is currently closing down its chemistry department - the one that gave the world LCD technology(!) - and similar patterns are rife across the north.

Good work, Leeds. I wish my city was as ambitious and progressive - but if the last year is anything to go by, @hullcitycouncil.bsky.social are more likely to abandon an #activetravel project because of some spurious claim or other. We really look #leftbehind by Leeds and Sheffield. 😔

He's talking about you, @cllrmikeross.bsky.social.

The state of this. They should change the title to ‘It took be ages to drive a distance that could’ve been walked faster and probably should have been’.

To be fair, they don't look much like any of the librarians I've met either. There's not a single cardigan in sight!

I miss the days when LPs were £4.99!

This is truly sad news. We'd had just a couple of chats over the years - mainly discussing us both being frustrated NHS cycle commuters and the crap women cyclists like her and my wife receive on the roads - but it was always good to hear from her. My thoughts are with her family.

Why is this important? @cllrmikeross.bsky.social is running for mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority, citing a focus on fixing transport in his campaign materials. This means more private vehicle encouraging decisions that encourage congestion that will be bad for #activetravel.

The latest Innrix rating suggests Hull has had a 14% increase of traffic between 2023-2024. Although just one source, it is more data than the council consulted throughout the process of removing the safety features - its decision-making based on unsubstantiated conjecture.
comment in response to post
The campaign against active travel appeared to win the #libdems local power. Although no evidence backed the concerns, and despite objections, active travel schemes were undone, important safety measures were removed, an current schemes were paused.

It's worth noting, this event played out as pandemic restrictions were lifted - roads previously free from traffic were seeing a return to previous traffic levels.

Amen! Partly responsible for the big orange Gretsch guitar I own!

Is the answer: @hullcitycouncil.bsky.social, who prioritise car driver concerns to the detriment of every public realm decision, unfortunately?

I like her style. I recently doctored a Spacemen3 sleeve for a friend's 50th ☺️

Greenwich Ave has never looked like a scene from a Scandi-noir so much before.
