If this is the level of reckless sloppiness and shoddy work that is now taking over our government, do you trust them to keep our food safe, our airplanes from crashing, and our towns warned in advance and protected when tornadoes are coming? www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Yep

Why did Hegseth just fire every top military branch lawyer? What did they refuse to sign off on? A Pulitzer awaits the reporters and outlet who can tell the public.

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

The last failsafe of any republican form of government is that the military is loyal to the constitution and rule of law over a particular leader. Cross that line, and you get Venezuela today and every dictatorship in history.

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

From an airline pilot perspective, I’m just going to point out the obvious: firing technicians who maintain the systems we use to navigate and get into position to land is…unwise. When the system works, nobody notices it. When it doesn’t work, everyone notices it. But it takes people the whole time.

For those keeping track, @nytimes.com ran the story today on the bottom of page A22.

What happens this time with impunity guaranteed?

I’m sure it’s just my TDS, but I think Trump is proving to be exactly as bad as we said he was going to be and people who acted like we were hysterical should be embarrassed they didn’t do more to try and stop it.

Trump declared himself above the law today. Literally announced it. Pinned it to his feed for emphasis. The White House reposted it. All to underscore it’s not some passing thought, which would be bad enough. It’s not the top story on any news site that I can find. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone needs to tell Wicker that the fool in this story is not Carlson. And it’s not Hegseth either.

American institutions—from the media to Congress—continue to underreact to the unraveling of our democracy. Overseas our media would not hesitate to call what we’re living through a full-blown autocratic coup. Here's my attempt at the story they should write: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-trump...

Utter failure to grasp what we are facing www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/u... 1. People lack the framework to recognize an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order 2. The lack of elites *acting* like point 1 is true makes it illegible. Without Ds behaving as if it's a crisis, it's not a crisis.

Recent punitive actions against ret. Gen. Mark Milley & Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan undermine civil-military relations and directly threaten the military’s apolitical integrity, write 5 frmr service secretaries and flag officers.

Government workers cannot be fired for their political views, from John Langford and Erica Newland @protectdemocracy.org www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

This is a remarkable letter. And it is worth thinking about its impact on John Roberts. If his clerk demonstrates this level of principle, how can Roberts do any less.

If you live in New York State and think Gov. Kathy Hochul should remove the corrupt mayor of NYC, give her a call or send her a letter.

Valor Danielle Sassoon, Acting U.S. attorney for SDNY - refuses to drop Adams charges and resigns John Keller, Acting head of DOJ Public Integrity Section - refuses and resigns Kevin Driscoll, Acting head of DOJ Criminal Division - refuses and resigns www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...

There are a lot of scandals right now (“flood the zone with shit”), but this may be the biggest. DOJ lawyers are being ordered to politicize criminal enforcement proceedings, refusing, and being told they’ll be “investigated” for abiding their oaths. DOJ is being turned into a political weapon.

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

The Danielle Sassoon letter to AG Bondi is wow. If you have a tip about what’s going on in DOJ/SDNY, I can be reached on Signal at annabower.24 Read the letter: www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Will all these Trump-placed law enforcement officials prove to have more guts and integrity than the elected Governor of NY Kathy Hochul?

These lines in Sassoon's letter to the U.S. Attorney General could provide a solid basis for NY Governor Kathy Hochul to remove Mayor Adams from office.

Holy Shit. They're burning through people pretty fast now. After Sassoon refused/resigned, the next two people - heads of Public Integrity Section (DC) and the Criminal Division also refused/resigned. This all JUST happened. And these are all 'actings', so they're people the Trump crew chose.

This is key. We really don't know how this is all going to shake out and snap polls in the 1st few weeks dont tell us much

And for the third straight day, the rest of the legacy media did nothing to stand up for the First Amendment. No boycott, no walkout, nothing but business as usual. Then, they wonder why people are canceling subscriptions and turning off their TV's while independent news outlets are thriving.

For a third straight day, an AP reporter was blocked from attending an Oval Office event, I'm told.

Trump’s W.H.O. Exit Throws Smallpox Defenses Into Upheaval www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/h...

When Biden withdrew from Afghanistan, regardless of the wisdom of the policy, the chaotic execution of it sunk his popularity and marked the point of no recovery for his presidency. Trump’s chaotic and lawless withdrawal of the US from engagements like these in a rational world would do the same.

This upside-down notion—that if an elected politician commits crimes in office, it’s undemocratic to hold them accountable—is a big part of why America is in this mess. No, winning an election does NOT grant permission to break the law. Yes, following democratically enacted laws is democratic.

Truly sad and humiliating to see Donald Trump, the President, just sit there weak and quiet as Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, acts like the President and talks to the media in the Oval Office. Wild scene.

The "Musk Team" is not a branch of the US government that gets to decide on funding cuts. That power belongs to Congress, which gets to decide because they are directly elected representatives of all of us, the American people.

Pretty much exactly what we talked about last week when we covered Tump's growing censorship regime www.ifyoucankeepit.org/p/trumps-eff...

The NY State Legislature should subpoena everyone involved in the Eric Adams prosecution, from the local US Attorneys Office to Main Justice, and have them all testify about the facts of the case and how it came to be shut down. @leaderasc.bsky.social

Lord knows I’m not a constitutional scholar not even a lawyer (and I’ve yet to check in with @kateshaw.bsky.social) but a legal regime in which “you can do crimes if you’re buddies with the president or praise him publicly” is *on its face* a violation the equal protection of the laws.
