It might not seem like the major issue, but the historical illiteracy of an American administration complaining that freeloading Europeans haven't done enough to militarily control the Suez Canal is quite the thing, eh?

How long before the Signal Foundation is blamed for the leak by the US administration?

I miss Aqua. Everything is so grey now

T-Mobile to swap 800MHz spectrum for more 600MHz. It's unusual to dispose of low band because MHz quantity tends to be smaller than on high bands & low is ideal for in-building & rural. But 600Mhz has been a T-Mo superpower asset enabling high quality 5G everywhere

How AI affects network requirements according to Nokia #mwc25 Upshot - better management with AI but also more usage pressure on networks from AI apps and AI devices

And so it begins, again... #mwc25

First view of AI at #MWC25, first advert on landing in Barcelona at the airport, KT's K-AI

In NYC today for an event with Amazon. Very little said ahead of time in terms of agenda, but expecting to hear a lot about the future of Alexa - something that Amazon have been fairly quiet about during all of the AI hype of recent years

Sitting at the big Amazon AI Alexa event with @jp2e.bsky.social @welch.bsky.social and @toddhaselton.bsky.social - no livestream so the best place to follow is our liveblog which is always minutes ahead of everyone ;) www.theverge.com/news/618261/...

Editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich’s “World Apology Tour.”

Same. Ping me now if you'd like to meet at MWC

A new era — my first business cards without twitter on them have just arrived

Reality check. Thank you, Financial Times.

“You kind of need these encrypted services …l from the people that are making the (operating system) on your phone,” EFF’s @jmullin.bsky.social told @cnn.com. “That’s why so much of the encryption conversation is around what Google and Apple are doing.”

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Question — Is the cloud data of any UK Apple users hosted in the US? If so, without Advanced Data Protection that data is accessible to US authorities. I'm unsure if that is a super good idea right now.

Removing Advanced Data Protection from UK users, simply means that the the data of UK residents, including government officials and politicians, will be accessible to foreign governments via cloud backdoors... "not ideal" given recent events

This is a catastrophic outcome -

Big implications from Microsoft's Majorana quantum chip, if it can be commercialized in years not decades as CEO Satya Nadella thinks. More from me here on possible implications: https://buff.ly/3QuEJhw

These cowardly puppets would’ve stayed mute if their guy had blamed Poland for Germany’s 1939 invasion — something not even Adolf Hitler dared to do www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/u...

There's something incredibly apt about a site called 404media reporting on the removal of facts, science, and DEI material from company and US government websites @404media.co

If you use Signal and your threat model includes Russian state actors, make sure your version of Signal is up to date in order to harden your account against these attacks: cloud.google.com/blog/topics/...

Interesting to see momentum around passive, or ambient, IoT with the launch of the Ambient IoT Alliance. For those not tracking, the idea is to have very small devices that are powered solely by environmental EM fields, more:

It's a good sign if social engineering is the easiest way to break encrypted messaging. See Signal updates to minimize risk from illicit QR codes -

If it follows the Palm timeline, next step will be for HP to sell it onward to LG to be integrated into LG's TV sets!

Worth seeing in person. This is super impressive hardware. It's amazingly thin.

"There is no such thing as bad publicity." Worth a read.

Last chance to back up Amazon Kindle books. Remember, there is little to stop a government from pressuring an ebook store to "update" or remove books to fit with their political outlook -

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

JD Vance’s Munich Security Conference speech has gone down well…in Moscow. Komsomolskaya Pravda headline: “Humiliated Europe out for the count. Its American master flogged its old vassals.”

The UK is telling its citizens “that it is willing to put their security at risk from all manner of bad actors like hackers and thieves because it cannot tolerate the ability to have a private conversation online,” EFF’s Andrew Crocker told @theverge.com.

About to start, #EricssonMWC pre-briefing

So, what does everyone think about Roost? Announced at Paris AI summit, it "develops, maintains, and distributes open source building blocks to safeguard global users and communities."

Reminder, China has enacted multiple stimulus measures to cushion its economy from global shocks and new tariffs over recent months. Here's a summary:

Brace for AI speeches from the Paris AI conference next week... An $500m-$2.5bn spend, "to fund public-interest projects on AI around the world" while a lot, is vastly less than the private sector investment in #AI https://www.reuters.com/technology/artificial-intelligence/trump-deepseek-focus-nati…

Trump has now asked Elon Musk to examine US defence spending. Elon Musk’s companies have multi billion dollar contracts with the Department of Defense and are seeking more. The BBC’s Today Programme just reported the first part, without mentioning the second. Unacceptable

Nokia's CEO is moves on. New CEO is from Intel. Will this herald a change in strategic direction? The last time Nokia had a N American leader (Elop) it presaged a sale of part of Nokia (to Microsoft)

T-Mobile Starlink satellite direct-to-phone service beta now available for AT&T & Verizon users for free. Will be $20 post July launch. Reciprocal satellite roaming on 8+ operators globally buff.ly/4hKdrA1

Military drones controlled by a reel of fiber, to avoid radio jamming - fascinating.

This is an incredibly bad idea. It will set a precedent for authoritarian regimes & enable mass surveillance of normal people, firms & journalists because *everything* is in the cloud: files, photos, notes, emails, contacts, appointments, smart home devices, passwords, web history
