Worst. Episode. EVER.

Was great to work with @tlap.bsky.social & a really insightful group of people to consider the principles that should inform the use of GenAI in social care. Some really important points captured in this, which together suggest a need for FAR more caution than I’m currently seeing across the sector

I ❤️ vaccines

I believe personalised care is far from business as usual and should be a key component of the 10 year plan. Working with people and communities and the VCSE where the solutions are, is the only way the NHS should be working but there needs to be resources available

“The environment is about 10 times more important than genes in explaining why some people have a higher risk of an early death than others, research has suggested.” [MedSky]

Generative AI can play a role in improving care and support, but it must be implemented with people at the centre of decision-making. This report identifies: - Principles to inform policy - Practical issues that need addressing - Urgent action needed from Government and regulators bit.ly/3QgYHw5

Social care is social justice. My weekly blog argues that how we value and resource #socialcare is a mark of #socialjustice in #Scotland. #SocialJusticeDay #equality #fairness #care scottishcare.org/social-care-...

and this is what could prove absolutely lethal to any integrity left in the country

Dial down expectations. News is designed with the purpose of explaining complex things v clearly to people without expert or 1st hand knowledge. It also tends to be a highly structured & formulaic form of writing. Yet still AI struggles to give *accurate* summaries www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/

In my 35 years in #mentalhealth poor #housing or a lack of has always been the thing that causes significant and enduring harm. Supported accommodation that is safe and close to one’s community is too hard to find. This is an important piece of research 👇🏼 www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Whatever your view on assisted dying, the fact the approach voted through can fundamentally be changed in just two weeks- moving from a court to expert panel-does not calm concerns. If society wants to make a change, it should do so knowing that safeguards can -and will- be changed over time.

LONG THREAD: Okay, let's break down a few things, both about ID cards and Labour's ill-advised tactics on "fighting Reform". First off, I personally don't think ID cards would work in UK, because we are objectively bad at things like this, but they work elsewhere so this isn't about them per se. 1/

Dont just talk getting nos down.1st give us all a vision for a better Britain- thats inclusive of some immigration (& open/fair to asylum seekers).Without something bigger to believe in,it’s socially dangerous & politically damaging. Can’t out perform Reform with its core. Change the message & focus

"A climate movement that hasn’t succeeded in making the cause of human survival genuinely popular is clearly missing something" 10 years+ of right wing populism and we still have no coherent opposition to give people an alternative. Why is this? www.newstatesman.com/environment/...

How easy would it be to snatch power and flood the zone in the UK? Easier than you might think. My column www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/dem...

On govt immigration policy.. “Keir Starmer could rally most Labour voters behind a cross party push for reform” could be an unintentionally prescient statement Fight Farage with “farage light” rhetoric, surely only Farage wins? Counter Reform where they’re weakest.. on Brexit & progressive change.

Kendall on ITV: "I think what the survey shows today is that despite all the myths, a lot of people who are currently on sickness or disability benefits want to work” Meanwhile Access to Work is broken, waits of over a year for disabled people who have a job to get the support. Stick but no carrot

There is a limit to how effectively any of us in UK are when it comes to influencing what is happening in US. One thing we can do is try to use the rights and laws we currently have in the UK to protect democracy and freedoms over here. That includes holding all our media to account
