This is right. I think folks almost don't believe that knowledge can truly be lost, but it can. It happened in the the fall of the Soviet Union, too. Regimes fall, and science can take a giant step back. Hopefully scientists find good countries to move to.

That's about right. Couple others doing ok, but man, lots of failure. It feels a bit like late Bush era, we were told who the party leaders were....turns out they weren't a guy nobody had heard of and was 'too inexperienced' was actually running the party 18 moths later.

Trump praising Schumer at DOJ now.

And a shanda.

Walz basically set this out there and the Dems followed. Sanders, too, who has been holding rallies. Maybe those guys (the left, and sort of populist Midwest) know how to fight better than Schumer et al.

What was that viral right wing video from a few years back where the old lady is singing “get out the way old man Schumer”. Upon further consideration I believe it was a bop.

Yep.

DEI hires were load bearing. Put ‘em back!

I understand that Schumer is a better politician than I am, but I really don't get it. What's the play here, exactly?

This guy has not been as good as I'd hoped, but if he's staking this out it's likely it has to be the position of the 2028 crew. (Every senator sees a president in the mirror).

You don’t want this. Historically people with political science phds are terrible politicians.

Vaccines are good.

I've met this guy, his name is Steve Liesman he's been on CNBC for years, and he is many things but not some wild lefty.

Not hearing enough noise about Mahmoud Khalil from folks who like to quote the "first they came for" poem. Y'all get that the point is that they came for controversial, easily othered groups first, right? Now, it's trans people, immigrants, and student activists. Your turn will come. Fight now.

New Sinema just dropped.

I teach classes on the Middle East and have for a long time. I’m happy to tell you that this is not HAMAS’s position.

Since it apparently needs to be said: As a Jew who works on a university campus, I am safest in a country that protects academic freedom and liberal values of due process of law. Anyone who supports extrajudicial detention of students for "wrong" ideological opinions is not doing it for my safety.

I think he asked Grok to tell him some Jewish names. Honestly.

Sunday night union email updates are a genre of writing someone should do a study on.

Every day I'm a 'Jewish person on campus.' Do not tell me you are enabling state disappearances to help 'Jewish people on campus' it's a disgrace and I know that in part because I grew up w people who had numbers the state tattooed on them to aid in their disappearance. They took a dim view of it.

This is better...

So the US is now disappearing permanent residents married to Americans. That's very bad.

Other states have State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) we have an Enterprise Owned State.

Self preservation can kick in....it's been memory holed but folks stopped going out at the start of Covid before 'stay at home' became a request/demand/order. Fear works.

Some of these schools have actively union busted, sometimes for decades. Probably hard to rally your community to defend your shared interests when you wouldn't bargain with them for theirs.

Real World Guy, welcome to the resistance!

This was a lovely call to leadership from one of our student leaders to our Board of Regents who have unfortunately not always acted in a way befitting those in positions of authority. We should all heed it.

I agree that at this point AOC (maybe even pritzker we love a class traitor!) is a better avatar of this but Sanders was right on it, continues to be right on it, and it’s far more effective than whatever Newsome is cooking up.

That’s true. I dunno. Seems pretty successful.

Hanta virus scares the crap out of me. We're a little north for the main regions in the US, but I still bleach the crap out of anything that seems to have had field mice in it (which is literally every single outbuilding on my property). If you live out west: www.cdc.gov/healthy-pets...

Why are they acting like this is a real thing?

And somehow his politics are worse than Cursed Joe's would be.

The choice of Columbia in particular shows that there's *no* amount of suppression of pro-Palestinian speech a university can engage in that will insulate and protect it; so might as well try to do the right thing, which Columbia has determinedly avoided since October 7. www.gsa.gov/about-us/new...

I helped organize 42,000 TSA workers and I negotiated the first contract. The DHS announcement is full of lies. Ultimately, they want to break the system to justify privatizing it. For-profit airport security is what failed on 9/11.
