Every day I've been on campus there have been students who are bigots against some group or another. Not lots, but some. I've never needed unconstitutional state power to save me from them before. What next, fealty and special taxes for my neo-Dhimmitude?

All because maybe, in some places, some students are bigots?Some student being a bigot (yes, they exist!) is never, can never, be the same threat to me that the coercive apparatus of the state is.

Right, that makes sense (I teach a unit a couple of units about South Africa but haven't spent time there, so it struck me as sounding very weird but was aware I can could be wrong...and also that identities shift, especially as identity entrepreneurs seek to polarize them)
