A few black & white photos of the great Norwegian rock band SPAN playing their final show at the o2 Islington Academy, London last year

Over the weekend caught two amazing films. September 5 is truly gripping, the setup means it could also work as a phenomenal stage play. The Seed of a Sacred Fig is bold and brave, a must see. I did wonder if its runtime would be off putting, but it never outstays its welcome and is entirely vital.

Really enjoyed hearing Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey’s if/then at the staged concert earlier this week. A joy to hear the full score and book for the first time. I wasn’t quite as keen on the staging in truth… but to hear the music live, with that cast, pure wow.

Testing @flashes.blue beta… so here’s a photo of my new local cinema. Posted with filter in the Flashes app.

Just as I was again grumbling about ticket prices… there’s now a big music fan survey that will lead directly into government committees. Topics range from how you choose shows, to food, merch & of course ticketing Worth the time to fill in, I’d say for all live event fans https://musicfansvoice.uk

If I paid the going rate of minimum £60 for every show I wanted to see in a year, I’d be broke. It just encourages the stay at home behaviour for many, making regular access to culture an elite activity.

Priced out of yet another musician’s upcoming shows, this time in a theatre. Handful of tickets at the back for £25 all gone along with most £55 ones by the time I reached the sale page. Prices increased through to £120. The fact these shows sell out simply encourages the pricing structure.

#SaveThePCC Some of you may have read about the situation regarding our new landlord wishing to add a new redevelopment break clause, with only 6 months notice to our lease. For now, we're simply asking you all to share & sign the petition below; you.38degrees.org.uk/p/princechar...

Film fans need to sign the petition I’ve linked to help save The Prince Charles Cinema. A bastion of great programming and community that brings richness to the cultural landscape of London. Damn the man! Save the PCC! https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/save-the-prince-charles-cinema

The Prince Charles Cinema, one of London's best cinematic gems, is at risk from crappy greedy boring landlords who want to strip the city of all the things that make it great. SIGN THE PETITION below...👇#SaveThePCC you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sa...

As for apps that use the protocol. I’m mainly using @skeetsapp.com for the classic Twitter feel and experience. @skylight.social is in beta testing and is essentially TikTok using the Bluesky feed. It has much promise! And there are Instagram style clones incoming. All exciting.

Bluesky newbies… sure, it’s like old twitter, but there’s a lot you can do with the app and third party apps that use the protocol it’s built on. And it’s all growing! Good starter guides are everywhere, this one by wired is especially good https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-get-started-on-bluesky/

A little bit of Foals’ debut LP Antidotes on vinyl this afternoon.

Quiet weekend away from the world to rest, recharge and enjoy silly trash, like the masked singer on tv. If anyone cares, my current guesses are Wolf - Donny Osmand, Pufferfish - Samantha Barks, Dressed Crab - Gregory Porter.

It’s (all) Happening. In London this time!

Busy day at work. But a quick post to share how much I’m loving the new self esteem track… can’t stop listening and excited for the new album! https://youtu.be/DgVqgud0L1c?si=z3xdA-7AKRsAzTbJ

Anyway. Starting to make starter packs and lists that I know friends will find useful. Starting with UK theatre accounts and people. Please send other accounts my way to add as and when you see and find. Here’s the feed: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:2e7oqacurjgu7o7us2q74ssm/lists/3lgdnppuvlb2d

Are other UK users who don’t use Instagram for politics & have never once been recommended the accounts of a UK politician, suddenly finding that they’re having the new USA administration pushed heavily in their recommendations? In my mind, that’s not cool.

Looks like Julia Fox has done what we all want to do in the @criterion.bsky.social closet. That is suitcase over tote bag. Can’t wait to see this video!

New to Bluesky? Here are 60 (and counting) UK independent record shops for you to follow go.bsky.app/FFCkVXG

It’s clearly up to you if you still want to use X, give them your personal data and/or money for subscriptions. After last night I’m glad I bailed months ago. Hoping Instagram doesn’t go the same way, but the shift in content policy was noticeable in my recc posts yesterday. (Edited 15:47)

A little clip of Jacob acollier’s Christmas concert at union chapel London in December in the hope I can get a @skylight.social beta invite

Started using the skeets app for the his platform. Lots of features that remind me of twitter before it was sold. Worth using even if it’s only to hold the position when pulling to refresh the feed.

Is this the Almost Famous Penny Lane Funko Pop we’ve been waiting years for? Will try and get confirmation…

Reminder if you’re watching Squid Game 2. Set you audio to Korean and subtitles to your language, for me that’s English. Watch it as it was made! Not just for the performances but out of respect for the film makers and Korean culture.

The moment that got me? When he asked Mick…

As a nation we’re now being asked, “Who picked up the shovel?” In the second Christmas Day episode of Eastenders. Two likely culprits…

Also applause for the Christmas Doctor Who. All very silly but highly enjoyable and brought a tear to the eye. Got a feeling the excellent War Games in colour remaster we’ve just had on BBC Four will play an important role in s2… “the games are deadly”… a defence contractor…

All hail aardman and the most excellent Wallace and Grommit Vengeance Most Foul. Whilst Feathers McGraw will always be the winner, I do need me a Norbot figure.

There are three sleeps until Christmas and you’ve forgotten to buy something for your vinyl-loving relative so you’re just going to get them an Amazon voucher 👎 Don’t. Here’s a thread of links to gift vouchers you can buy now that can be spent on UK independent record shops’ websites

Any reccs for builders who work E London and can remove / install a shower this week? Long story short, our one no longer exists.

Started a couple of weeks break with panto @lyrichammersmith.bsky.social last nt (oh yes he did!) Absolutely perfect fun for all; full of pop songs, silliness, and tradition. ‘‘Tis the season & this is a fab local panto reflecting it’s community worth supporting.
