Authoritarians thrives in an environment of ignorance and minimal education.
Slashing education encourages the ignorance of those who support them who do so unaware it is against their own self interest. Simultaneously it deprives those most oppressed of acquiring the tools to resist.

DJT's apparently serious goal of annexing Canada as a US state is clear evidence he can not be planning having to contend with elections to stay in power. He'd be adding a very large blue state block of voters. He may not be capable of that sort of forethought but Bannon et al certainly are.

Most Americans feel as if they are aboard a sinking ship. Many have been convinced by propaganda that "government" has conspired in favor of the other passengers. Dems say "remember us, we were the ones bailing just enough to keep from sinking?" Meanwhile corp fat cats are comfy in first class?
