Just back from a night in the desert. Hope to have something new to share after processing. Here are a few #iPhone snaps I took while out there. #LAAS #GMARS #Astro #Astrophotos #Astrophotography

So many #Nebula call for a creature or thing seems pretty arbitrary. The #PelicanNebula actually seems to make sense to me from this angle. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #ZWO #Space

#Moths have such amazing fur/feathers/scales. They are so incredible up close. #Macro #Bugs

#M16 the #EagleNebula, and #M17 the #OmegaNebula or #SwanNebula were close enough to each other that I could get them both in frame with this #RedCat51 telescope. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #ZWO #Space #Stars #Eagle #Swan #Omega

In the core of the #ElephantTrunkNebula there is this silhouette that looks more like a person than an elephant to me. Captured in #OneShotColor this target comes through mostly red. In Narrowband these other colors are revealed. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #Space #ZWO

The #WizardNebula captured with cooled, color #Astrophotography camera. These tend to provide simple color palettes, mostly in red where they see #Hydrogen with a bit of blue where they see #Oxygen. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #ZWO

The #LagoonNebula is the perfect target to look for after Orion and Andromeda. Its fairly bright and has a lot of detail for many different #Telescope sizes.

The #TriangulumGalaxy is so fun because of all of the #Nebula you can see in it from here. #LAAS #Astro #AstroPhoto #Astrophotos #Astrophotography

The #RingNebula with a 710mm scope is tiny... but I love to see these huge open views with just a few #galaxies and #nebulas to find. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #Space

The #EagleNebula has so many interesting details, including the #PillarsOfCreation! #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #Nebula #ZWO

Imaging and processing images of space things is a bit of a journey. I was trying to understand what focal length was better for #M13 the #GlobularCluster in #Hercules, and found a way to get more from my data. 1700mm on the left, and 710mm on the right. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography

Another #StarTrail image from near the Celestial Equator. A full circle would be 24 hours, so this would have been 8-9 hours (a full night) with the shutter open as much as possible. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #StarTrails #Space #StarStax

Because of the wobbly air we tend to use video compressed down to a single frame for tighter crops of the #Moon. It's a bit like looking through water when the 'Seeing' is bad, but that 'wobble' is averaged out with the many frames in the video. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophotography #Lunar #Space

Many of these #Astrophotography images are actually captured with #Monochrome Cameras. A filter is used to gather specific spectrums that are later merged into a single image. #LAAS #Astro #Antlia #Astrophoto #Space #ZWO

For #ValentinesDay it seems appropriate to share this image of the #HeartNebula. It's a #Nebula I have shared before with different framing from different #telescopes, but I love this shot because it shows the details in the middle so well. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Space #Love #Valentines

#Comets have such terrible names, usually named after the year and group when first spotted. This is C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS around mid October near Los Angeles. If you knew where to look, it was visible to the naked eye. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophotography #Comet

Here's Messier 78 and the Northern section of Barnard's loop in Orion #astrophoto #astronomy #astrophotography #astronight

We set up our #Telescopes to track the stars and offset the motion of the Earth. This allows for very long exposures, often 5 to 10 minutes. You can see the #Telescope locked on the stars in this #Timelapse. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophotography

The #Monarch spend a lot of time in our yard eating milkweed, so we see them at all stages. The dark #Chrysalis right before they emerge has these beautiful gold accents. #bugs #Insects

#MarkariansChain is this amazing chunk of sky that’s just loaded with #Galaxies. The more you pan around the more you can see. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophotography

The Angel nebula is a wonderful combination of emission, reflection, and dark nebulae found in the constellation Monoceros, next to Orion's right leg.

The #TrifidNebula captured with #EdgeHD9.25 and #asi2600mcPro using the #ASIAir, and processed using the #RCAstro suite in #Pixinsight.

A couple attempts with a dedicated #Solar #Telescope made by #Lunt. Like most things in this hobby, they are quite easy to get started, and quite hard to get good at. These images are from a monochrome video, refined down to a single image. #LAAS #AstroPhotography #Astro #ZWO

M81, Bodes galaxy, a Grand Spiral, is one of the brightest galaxies in our sky cause it's not that far away from us. So we are able to photograph a lot of detail like the pink starbirth regions and dust lanes surrounding its supermassive blackhole at the centre. #astrophotography #space #galaxies

Rocket launch from #Vandenberg tonight, seen from #LosAngeles. #LAAS

#BodesGalaxy captured at 1700mm focal length from the hills north of LA. #LAAS #Astro #M81 #Astrophotography #Astrophoto #ZWO

Happened to be in #DeathValley when what looks like and #F22 flew overhead.

It seems fitting to share my #Astro image of the #EagleNebula today, along with the #PillarsOfCreation at the heart of it. Go #Eagles! #LAAS #Eagle #Nebula #Astrophotography #Astrophoto #ZWO

#Eagles are amazing #Birds! We got so close to them in #Alaska recently. #Eagle #Birdwatching #BaldEagle

The #BubbleNebula! This image actually looked pretty terrible on #Instagram, but looks pretty great on #Bluesky. This place is way better. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #ZWO #Space #Nebula

Flying into #Bergen, #Norway.

#DarkNebula like this #SharkNebula can be very difficult to capture with most #Telescope, but the #Hyperstar makes it possible very quickly and easily. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #Astrophotography #ZWO

The slow progression of improved skills and equipment constantly rewards. These images are about a year apart as I moved from a normal camera and lens to a dedicated cooled #Astro camera and #Telescope. #Orion #LAAS #Astrophotography

Love the simplicity of this image of the #CrescentMoon lit up by #EarthShine, taken on a road trip from #Texas to #California. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto

A #Galaxy like #NGC4656 doesn’t have the stereotypical spiral shape as we are looking at its edge. This one gets called the #HockeystickGalaxy or #CrowbarGalaxy, I assume because of the shape we can see from here. #LAAS #Astro #Astrophoto #AstroPhotography #ZWO #Space

During the summer on #SaltspringIsland we came across a dehydrated #Bat under the canoe. I’ve not been this close to one until now. Amazing fur!

From the mountains north of LA, when the timing is right, we can see the #Starlink train of #Satellites crossing the sky. #LAAS

Loved this #Hyperlapse taken walking around a #CrystalCruise to #Alaska.

When exposed just right during #Eclipse #Totality you can see the #Sun #Corona, and even a few #Solar prominences. Given that we had a thin film of clouds over us our view wasn't ideal, but it was an amazing experience all the same. #Astro #LAAS #Astrophotography

From LA we can often see rocket launches from #Vandenberg Air Force base, near Lompoc. When the conditions are right the sunlight only illuminates the upper atmosphere. This time the sun just lit up the smoky trails, looking like fire in the sky.
