Antidepressants can cause severe harms for some - akathisia, suicidal urges, dependence, PSSD. I nearly lost my son to an adverse reaction. I'm trying to understand why informed consent so often doesn't happen, and how this can change.

When I was a trainee debate was welcome in psychiatry. It is still is among many practising psychiatrists, but the establishment is invested in the biological view of depression (& most mental disorders) and deeply defensive when that is called into question.

We can all be impulsive, disorganised and unfocussed. Doesn’t mean we all need ADHD drugs.
