It's really convenient that the airport is attached to the venue but might be a lot easier to fly to London and then get a train to Birmingham which is what I usually do. It's about a 2.5 train ride through the English countryside which is pretty neat

I've stayed at the Moxy & Hilton at the NEC and Premier Inn/random Airbnbs in town and they've all been fine.

There are several hotels right next to the NEC (venue) but they fill up quickly. I'd recommend looking for stuff next to New Street train station in Birmingham, then it's a quick train ride to the airport which is attached to the event venue.

You'll find much more touristy stuff in London; Birmingham is a lot more laid back. They have a cool mall. Scotland is my fave place in the UK though.
In terms of the UKGE itself, it's heavily focused on board games. Usually lots of new stuff to demo. Not too big or small, plenty to do. Great con

It's where I first saw your Mass Effect game! They were very strict about not letting me take photos even though you were posting it on twitter at the same time lol.
The venue is close to Stratford Upon Avon which is where Shakespeare was from; lots or do there if you're into that.
