#ShoeReport OK. Prototype #4 (right) and #5 (left) have gone through their paces. 😁 For some reason, we were unable to find a squirrel today - so the scavenger hunt didn't work out. (Did see otters, cats & a rooster). On #4 - the instep straps are pulling off - but that's what #5 was fixing.

Hey @altnoaa.bsky.social ! It's hot here in DC. Can you use the weather machine and dial up a storm for tomorrow? We don't need a 500 year storm. Just something to close the flood barrier in DC. (And wring the humidity out of this air.)

@in-otter-news.bsky.socialThanks @in-otter-news.bsky.social for inspiring me to go find otters. Unfortunately, no good pictures of the American River Otter, bit here's an Asian Smallfoot Otter instead!

What do you mean it's not #Caturday? Screw it, I'm taking my nap now!

#ChickenReport Friday the 13th Roscoe the Rooster The citizens of Takoma Park, MD have adopted Roscoe as their symbol. In the day, citizens would thwart the evil animal catcher who would terrorize the rooster. Eventually, they gave up, and Roscoe could strut his stuff in comfort. 🐓🐓🐓

Ok. This is from a long time ago. Steve Doocy was the comedy reporter at NBC news in DC. He asked for directions to parking at the MoCo fair - and I accidentally sent him the wrong way. Seeing what he is now - I'm glad I sent the Channel 4 car in the wrong direction!

Yippee! Turns out I'm not underemployed after all! I'm retired! So long boring meetings and writing code for the man!

Today is another shoe testing day. I think I'll go for a scavenger hunt! I'll look for squirrels, cats, chickens and otters. Surely if I can complete a scavenger hunt in the latest version they'll be ready to sell.

I think I *finally* have a sandal that I wouldn't be too embarrassed to sell. Turns out there is a lot of stuff you overlook when making things for yourself - that suddenly stand out when you think: "Hey, I could sell these things!" Paint needs to dry; Glue needs to cure; Test day *TOMORROW*!!!

My last may look injured, but I really just placed some masking tape on to force a little bit of ease. I went through the trouble of coming up with an equation to tell me how many layers I needed - only to find it's easier to just throw some tape on and take a new measurement.

Ugg. The thought of me making ANOTHER prototype fills me with dread. I'm going to run low on one of my leathers (that I can't replace!) Maybe I'll make one shoe, see if that fixes it? If it works I'll make the other.

Pride Festival in the rain is the way to do it. No lines, no extreme heat. Just a terribly unfashionable trash bag for a poncho. Although I think they started loosening the no umbrellas policy on my way out.

Tonight - I'm painting leather. Between the edge painting of all my prototypes, and the concept shoe I'm working on - I think I get it. I don't like it - but I get it. (I don't like painting for the same reason I don't like ice cream cones - my hands get all messy...)

Made a new prototype sandal today - and frankly, I hate it. The toe band is better - but in the wrong spot. The foot band is snug. It's causing the foot band to pull up. (Also, the heel is off the edge - very bad.) I think I'm going to add 5mm of ease, move the toe band - and hope it works.

Pride month is such a relief! 11 months of living in shame is exhausting, and no one should have to do it!

Today is the start of the Pride festival weekend in DC! I don't know about you, but I feel like committing at least one of the 7 deadly sins.

Yesterday, my job was to wear shoes. (Definitely one of the easier things on my task list. 😁) (1/2) Shoe Report: Activity: Working on updated pattern. Comfort: Pretty comfy - not Crocs, but they aren't supposed to be. Style: I like the painted edges - definitely an improvement.

Primitive Technology is usually about how useful pottery is - today, they're showing that basket weaving is useful too. Oh, to live in a world where you only have to worry about the animals who want to eat you. (Never mind - I think I prefer civilization...)

Dinas got a new pair if shoes! (Test pair #3) These are the first pair that I would feel comfortable selling. I think the process is finally working. My main job today, is to wear shoes, and see if they unexpectedly fail.

Am I the only one annoyed that there are hills on Kansas Ave in DC?

So, I know it shouldn't be surprising, but my 3rd test pair has come out better than the previous 2!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today, I'm putting the finishing touches on test pair #3. I'm embuing my sandals with soles... And soon, I'll be shaping their soles to my whim! Muwahaha!
