A fractured effort isn’t as strong as a combined effort.

But I’m crushing it with my 548 day streak and THAT’S what’s really important.

Time to divest from major social platforms and join the indie web! (This is my plan.)

I remember being so excited when I planned a new site, putting up the “under construction” gif until it was ready.

I bet he’s just going to get super cozy with them both and sell Ontario, and Canada, out. I have no faith in a man that’s called himself a republican and a supporter of Trump. Those who voted for him should be ashamed of themselves.

And then a HUGE influx of people showed up that stressed their systems? Cuz there’s a huge difference between those two scenarios.

Is it that she doesn’t know how to run it or that she couldn’t anticipate unprecedented user growth after Meta announced it would be scraping their users data to train their LLM?

Give Cara a try! The gal who runs it seems like a genuinely decent person.

This is honestly one of the reasons I’ve contemplated leaving IG. All my creative sessions were peppered with thoughts of how whether anyone there would like it. It prevented me from following my ideas and trying new things. I’m trying to push past that to just create for the sake of creating.

I’m at the point in my career where I would sooner take a pay cut and work for a smaller organization, or even switch industries, than work for a company that refuses to respect and protect people.
I’ve been there before. It was the most soul crushing experience. Never again.

It is an absolute deal breaker for me if a company does not have measures in place to prevent literal hate crimes or harassment against vulnerable people (or anyone for that matter).
Even if they have a strong DEI program, I keep my guard up as that can absolutely just be performative.

How in the bloody hell everyone is just turning a blind eye to this prick is beyond me. Have we all gone absolutely money-mad that we don’t care that some absolutely despicable prick is going to burn the world to the ground?

Less date to scrape plus less zero tech oligarchs = probably A.I. that would more closely mirror the useful tool we all sorta hoped it would be?

As an artist, one of the things I love about painting is entering into the flow state where I’m in the moment and it’s just me and my art.
Having to spend part of that moment documenting “the human effort” feels akin to stopping mid-meditation to respond to a work email.

Professional graphic designer here. Been in the industry for over a decade. I’m currently trying to find a way to make a move out, either to a marginally related field or something else altogether.

We need to fight the doom feeling. Doom means action is meaningless. You know who loves the idea of that?
The people in power causing the problem.
If we feel disempowered and like everything is pointless than they’ve won. They get what they want without a fight.
Their worst nightmare is a fight.

You know what a fun cool lil idea could be for you guys? Organizing a mass employee walk out in protest. Shut it down. They can’t function if you stand there to do your job.

I used to work for a tech company. The second I realized what I was aiding and abetting I got out. It was easy for me because I have a partner and no children and financially we would be ok. But I feel for employees at those companies who can’t make as easy an escape as I could.

All social media did was isolate us from each other and profit off it. We need to engage in our IRL communities and we can’t do that if our attention is drawn to a tiny screen in our hands.
Social media brings people together as effectively as changing your profile photo combats racism.

Agreed. Their algorithm is phenomenal and it’s far easier to gain access to breaking news, and easier to control advertising. It’s much more intuitive from a user perspective. Meta and Twitter are hot garbage in comparison.

Here’s the thing. We have centuries worth of history that tells us what and why the “other side” thinks the way they do. I do not need to see it or engage with it online to understand it.
Further to that, we all have the right to support businesses that align with our morals.

Here’s what’s happening and why it’s both a distraction and a genuine power play on his part:
He’s not going to deliver on his campaign promises to the working class. Project 2025 is a go. And, as a big admirer of fascist warmongerers, he genuinely wants to invade other countries.

As long as there are still prospects to mine, many companies will simply find a way to rationalize away continuing to advertise on Meta platforms. Money means more to them than morals.
