Just a quick note: Both our local Dicks Sporting goods are staffed by old dudes who LOVE to talk fishing and LOVE to set up a little kid with a Snoopy fishing pole for like $20. In case you want to keep that sorta thing in mind. I imagine any Cabela's is the same.

That's nothing. One weekend when I was single-dad'ing, I lost track of time and ended up taking middle kid, age 6, to a huge birthday party with 15 minutes remaining.
They'd already handed out the goodie bags. All the cake was gone. Most kids were being picked up.

Our middle schooler had the same symptoms this week. He's now got 1 full day of school left next week, then a trip to Hershey Park and graduation on Weds. Just goofy.

COVID really placed a speed bump on it, I think. There's definitely sort of this mini generation of kids who were 8-12 during COVID who got really accustomed to just being at home.
