Excellent report by @healthfoundation.bsky.social on how NHS can make the most of tech adoption - and what's working, and what's not. Hugely important: "Successful implementation requires designing new uses of technology in consultation with staff and patients." www.health.org.uk/reports-and-...

Fascinating opinion piece, with lots to ponder about good work, and wellbeing - and the basic tenets of dignity and workers' rights.

New piece by me in Luminate - the student and graduate labour market information portal - drawing on #skills clustering analyses and research on importance of #capabilities for @ifow.org’s Pissarides Review, funded by @nuffieldfoundation.org luminate.prospects.ac.uk/from-skills-...

Yesterday marked the end of the UK government’s consultation on the intersection of AI and copyright laws and as policymakers consider their next steps, the future remains uncertain for creative workers. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

HT our Research Fellow @rdbinns.bsky.social for this photo, showing the extraordinary (and rare) coordinated action across the media concerned about the government's preference that would allow AI companies to scrape creative content - unless people 'opt out. There is real anger over this issue.

Great to have our Associate Director, @kesterbrewin.com, in #Bournemouth to see the fantastic work that SPEAR and Pollen are doing in the local community there, engaging young people who are struggling to access the labour market in #skills and #capabilities training.

"The challenge, Houngbo told the attendees at the Summit, lies in the quality of the new jobs that AI will help create, and the impact on existing inequalities within the labour market." www.ilo.org/resource/new...

The Education Select Committee, chaired by @helenhayes.bsky.social, is running an inquiry into FE and Skills, and has call for evidence inc. exploring "the role of Skills England in meeting the Government's industrial strategy and boosting economic growth." committees.parliament.uk/work/8883/fu...

See what we've been up to in the latest Spotlight, IFOW's mid-month bulletin, which covers insights from the Paris AI Action Summit, AI Fringe in London, and the Nordic AI Summit in Oslo. www.ifow.org/news-article...

A great deal of interest in the findings from our @nuffieldfoundation.org-funded Pissarides Review. We have published a concise Executive Summary for policymakers to give an overview of the key dimensions of the findings, and the implications of them: pissaridesreview.ifow.org/finalreport

Our Co-Director, @abbygkgilbert.bsky.social, is in Oslo for their #AISummit, and has shared this this morning from one of the sessions. Important to understand what the human implications are for co-working with AI tools. As they present themselves as more 'intelligent', do we abdicate discretion?

The IFOW panel, 'Making The Future Work: Getting Workplace AI and Governance Right,' is underway in the Main Auditorium at The British Library. The discussion is focused on key insights from the Pissarides Review, highlighting the importance of prioritising good work.

WE ARE ALL ARTISTS ✊🏾✊🏼✊🏻✊✊🏿 Creative work is the canary in the #AI… literally vital we get this right. Fantastic session - many thanks @dacs.org.uk for convening, and superb panel. Video coming shortly, as is @braiduk.bsky.social funded CREAATIF project report from @ifow.org, Turing, QMUL and UAL.

Our Co-Director, @abbygkgilbert.bsky.social is still in Paris attending #AIActionSummit. This afternoon, she will be supporting the setting up of a new global network of AI labs at the Initiating the AI@Work labs network (INRIA) workshop. www.elysee.fr/en/sommet-po...

It's day one of AI Fringe at The British Library. As part of this dynamic programming, IFOW will host ‘Making the Future Work: Getting Workplace AI Right’ today at 4 PM in the Main Auditorium.

It’s good to have members of our core IFOW team in Paris for the AI Action Summit. This morning’s Future of Work session highlighted the critical role of ‘social dialogue’ in the adoption of workplace AI— aligning with the findings from our Pissarides Review, funded by the @nuffieldfoundation.org

It's AI Fringe week! Catch our Associate Director @kesterbrewin.com tomorrow, 11 February at 2PM at The British Library. He will be moderating the ‘Supporting creative futures in arts, culture and AI’ panel featuring leading experts in the creative industries.

We're #hiring! We are looking a lead for events and communications. This is a full time role, with a need to be in London on a regular basis. An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team building a fairer future of better work. www.ifow.org/news-articles/were-hiring---comms-and-events-associate

Great that the superb paper on #skills clustering by Zhaolu Liu, Jonathan M. Clarke, Bertha Rohenkohl and Mauricio Barahona - commissioned under our Pissarides Review and funded by @nuffieldfoundation.org - has just been published in a leading journal: journals.plos.org/complexsyste...

Delighted to be part of this with our Associate Director @kesterbrewin.com chairing. Never more urgent. UK creative industries generate £108bn annually, are growing over 1.5x faster than the rest of the economy, with workforce growing at ~5x average UK rate. Risks of GenAI to this are huge.
