Marco Rubio said that it became clearer for them what Putin wants. Well, it was clear from the very start (please share this post with people who are still wondering) voxukraine.org/en/putin-wan...

@profholian.bsky.social research shows that more Ukrainians living in the US started speaking Ukrainian, and more US-born people started identifying as Ukrainians after Russia's full-scale invasion voxukraine.org/en/identity-...

Ukrainian prosecutor general under Yanukovych (who later ran away to Moscow) was named Viktor Pshonka. He is remembered for "Pshonka-style" (i.e. extreme kitsch but very expensive). A few illustrations below: his portrait like "Julius Caesar", his house.

The EU does not have time until 2030, as it states in its ReArm plan. It must immediately use frozen Russian money to buy weapons, including investment into Ukraine's weapon industry. Belgian gov-t can transfer about 2/3 of this money from Euroclear today! www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/e...

A positive thing about Trump's chaotic economic policy is that it will be easier for Europeans to raise EUR800 bn for their rearmament as people switch away from US bonds. They can also attract engineers and researchers from the US for their weapons production.

The statue of Trump should not be at Mar-a-Lago. For consistency, it should replace the statue of liberty

People who say that Russians and Ukrainians are the same people essentially say that Ukrainians do not exist. In this respect so-called "Russian opposition" is the same as Putin.

Appeasing Putin is NOT ending the war

Russia's war is not only genocide of Ukrainians, it is also genocide of nations which Russia occupies. The EU must send a message to occupied Russians peoples that it would recognize them www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/e...

Europe has become the world’s bulwark against the rising tide of authoritarianism, and it can no longer afford to hide behind legalistic excuses. It must transfer Russian assets to Ukraine - write Andrew Kosenko and Joseph Stiglitz www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/r...

The rise of populist ultra-right and ultra-left parties supported by Russia is very dangerous for Europe, as the US case shows. Tolerance to your enemy is self-defeating. Europe must ban political forces with ties to Russia and Russian media outlets. www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/e...

Europe is preparing for the war but it doesn't have 4 years for this. It should (1) immediately transfer Ru assets to Ukraine (can exchange them for the EU bonds); (2) close Ru-related media outlets and punish politicians with ties to Russia; 1/2 www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/e...

Dr. Motyl wrote an important text on responsibility. I would only add that Russians do not realize their responsibility for what their country did or does, that's why they continue the genocide. t.co/wQ73vr12b4

I advise to watch this video and other videos on this channel. It shows very clearly why the Western scholars, journalists, politicians etc. have no clue about Russia t.co/W85cXdvOvB

Someone who was born in Ukraine is not necessarily a Ukrainian. Being Ukrainian is a choice, and not an easy one.

Three weeks before the full-scale war, Russia and China issued a joint statement against the West. Now Chinese soldiers are fighting in Ukraine (and certainly China has been supplying Russia with money, spare parts, equipment etc.) 1/2 www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Smoot-Hawley act (1929) turned a recession into Great Depression. To overcome the depression, the US businesses traveled overseas. During 1929-1932, Kahn bureau built 521 plant in the USSR, using GULAG prisoners and training Soviet engineers. 1/2

Russia killed 19 people in Kryvyi Rih, of them 9 children, and injured almost 70. As usual, Russian propaganda says that they hit a meeting of Ukrainian and NATO officers. US ambassador to Ukraine says "missile struck" as if it's a rain or snow. What a shame.

Open letter: "We call on the administration to cease its wholesale assault on U.S. science, and we urge the public to join this call. Share this statement with others, contact your representatives in Congress, and help your community understand what is at risk." docs.google.com/document/d/1...

In the future, economists will use today's tariff increase as a natural experiment. It is interesting to see how much prices increase when tariffs are increased by some random number. Less interesting to live through this.

Social media blurred the distinction between experts and bloggers. Thus, random TikTokers have the same or even more trust than people who've studied certain subject for many years. No wonder that TikTok freaks are winning elections. Ivan Gomsa 2020 article explains it voxukraine.org/en/waiting-f...

finally! other countries should ban their russian puppets too

Trump announced that he wants to run for the third term. I was expecting that but not so fast.

China is the main adversary - not surprising. Surprising is that they are ruining US institutions, including defense, and undermining the economy with tariffs. In this mode, the US will not be able to confront China.

Now it becomes clearer what "great again" means. The US has a history of creating "banana republics", i.e. establishing puppet governments who would allow US companies to exploit their countries' resources. Trump wants to do the same trick with Ukraine. Ironically, this will weaken the US

Putin returned to Ariston their confiscated assets. For some reason Ariston does not think that Putin can confiscate them again. This is called institutional memory.

Ukraine is becoming stronger. It's not a loser despite what Trump may think: www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrain...

Perhaps Ukrainians now need to present Trump the golden statue of Trump that should be placed on the top of Capitolium.

Thinking that US can align with Russia to confront China is extremely naive. Russia can't confront China. Second, it doesn't want to (if anything, it will align with China to destroy both US and Europe). Third, Russia doesn't respect agreements. And its many-centuries dream is destroying the West.

The EU decision not to confiscate frozen Russian assets is very weird. These assets have been already written off by Russia, they are not a leverage on Putin. If the logic is that they will be confiscated after Russia loses, then why not confiscate them now, helping Ukraine win?

The main thing to realize about Russia is that it's an extremely vertical society. There is no at par communication. You are either above or below. "A trembling creature or have the right". Interesting that all those Dostoevsky-lovers have not yet understood this.

Two years ago, we described a scenario that would have likely unfolded had Ukraine “fallen in three days” (in short – a concentration camp from Lisbon to Vladivostok). To avoid this scenario, Europe must act. t.co/pAsQuDNDMO

In early 2000s, Putin started his way to dictatorship by ruining quasi-independent media that existed in Russia. The next step was to jail the largest oligarch in the country. Then was the second war with Chechnya

Russia’s war on Europe (yes, the war is being waged on Europe, and Ukraine is its frontline) is Europe’s most important problem. Only Russia's defeat will bring peace. econ4ua.org/plan-b-for-u...

The EU parliament is shocked by Jeffrey Sachs remarks. I'm shocked that Sachs was invited to the EU parliament. He's been a Russian propaganda mouth for a long time, and we wrote about this 2 years ago: voxukraine.org/en/open-lett...
