Yeah, but many Hard-hitting attacks are calculated using Physical Defense rather than Elemental Resistance. So, you should start with a Resistance Buff, but a Defense Boost will also come handy.

The attack stat does nothing for most Psynergy, it's only applied to "Physical" moves (normal attack, Ragnarok, and a few other psynergies).
However, the Ninja class has access to Shuriken and Death Plunge, which are one of these few physical skills!
You should try them out with a buff.

In my honest opinion, all the Pixel Remasters are trash. At least the art direction. The animations are way too detailed and the character sprites look horrible, they are like, 150% whiter and uglier.
