We can implement a baseline of social security for everyone, that we allow no one with established need to go below. We have the system in place. The fix is simple: #RaiseTheRate #auspol

It’s a positive move if done properly. But so often these schemes get used to limit spending and people get hurt. Our entire system and beliefs need an overhaul. For too long we’ve allowed people to be considered worthless.

Fair enough. I voted Independent first and second too.

Campaigning to live above the poverty line IS CAMPAIGNING FOR HUMAN RIGHTS! Money doesn’t discriminate. People do. Allow everyone a baseline economic equality. First: #RaiseTheRate because #PovertyKills - poverty takes decades off lives: that’s a fact. #auspol

These really are the finer points where things either go terribly wrong or work as they should. Interesting how little some in “charge” understand of what’s needing to be done. Business managers without on the ground experience can obviously be nightmares to have to work with. Intricate work.

Worse, though, is that too much effort that should be going into getting all that “just right” is being diverted to assuaging internal bureaucrats who know nothing, can’t learn, but can and will block the change if their egos aren’t stroked to their, um, satisfaction 😳

😔 don’t vote for that. Let it be known always you don’t support that.

They could achieve it simply by making the base rate of benefits the same across the board. Either way this will entail raising the rate of JobSeeker payment. #RaiseTheRate

It’s only 4.1% according to ABS.

Yes. We all know poverty increases poor health, which ends up being a costly health care expense. Prevention is better than cure.

100% ACOSS has reported for every dollar increased the government saves over that and more in services that would no longer be needed. We are propping up an aid based country to meet the demand of poverty the same country creates. It’s cruel and shameful. #RaiseTheRate #auspol

Forcing people to live in poverty also costs a fortune in so many other areas of the budget...

How soon would they be benefiting from the very things creating the need for charity then? 🤨

With unemployment at 4.1% #JobSeekers make up less than 5% of our population. Is this why our voice is ignored and we’re left facing homelessness and hunger and illness and dispossession and exploitation? Because we are a minority? #RaiseTheRate #auspol www.abs.gov.au/statistics/l...

Tell me: How would raising the rate of JobSeeker harm anyone? #auspol

I support social security systems that look after people. Right now for JobSeekers and many others in Australia’s system - we are being left behind to rot. Because we are poor, a minority, and demonised. We deserve enough to afford a roof and our needs met. #auspol #RaiseTheRate #JobSeekers

What about just ensuring right now everyone in Australia has enough to live? Changing the system will take a lot longer. Meanwhile people need a lot more right now just to get by. To even have the energy to campaign. #RaiseTheRate #JobSeekers are real live people with needs. #auspol

For those 5% what do you suggest? Gulags and slavery before their obvious early deaths as paupers on the streets. Ffs! Are you listening to how heartless you are - dismissing livelihoods because they’re a minority! 😱 #RaiseTheRate of #JobSeeker #Housing #CostOfLiving #Health

You’re preaching to the Choir. However #RaiseTheRate allows economic autonomy and choices to all. Levelling the baseline of economic disparity will bring everyone out of poverty. Income measures don’t see colour, gender or creed: they only see ability to engage financially. #auspol #HumanRights

Is it #raisetherate? Or #HumanRights? If Australia had human rights...

Many years ago a TAFE lecturer said, never gamble with money you can't afford to lose; the way I see it, gambling is nothing more than giving my money away and, if I'm going to do that, it would be better to donate it to a good cause

Same. The minimum wage should never be lower than the tax free threshold. Yet here we are Australia. It’s a lot lower. TFT $18,200 minimum wage $948/week = $49.296/year. These two facts do not make sense and drive poverty in the disparity. #auspol #RaiseTheRate

I mean expanding the TFT to the minimum wage would be where I would start so I reckon the in law and I may be pretty far apart here haha.

Did you know there are 2 versions of Monopoly originally created by a woman who's name escapes me.
One was cooperative and one was competitive.
Parker Bros stole them and only produced the competitive version.

But that would deny so many Aussies pleasure from their greatest pastime - punching down on those less fortunate.
The very same aspirational dullards defending the wealthy with $3 million in super, commonly delight in sinking the slipper into the poor and disadvantaged.

Plunging someone into survival-only living *and* expecting them to look for work is fundamentally cruel.
Our government practises cruelty on its most vulnerable citizens.

Not sure totally. When the RB kept raising int rates, landlords put up rent. Now they're starting to lower them, there's a fear rents will go up. The best idea i've seen yet, is to limit the ability for investors to borrow for multiple neg geared properties.

Whichever gets it there sooner. Raising it to the Henderson poverty line is a lot easier than changing the system. Keep it simple. Everyone below a certain income level qualifies - it’s essentially the same thing. A guarantee of income. We must abolish mutual obligations and slavery though. #auspol

We need a base social security amount for anyone who qualifies as needing assistance. Qualifying is the point. We live in the same economy. Additional allowances can. Anthem added according to need and relevance - disability, aged, parent, etc. Meanwhile they must #RaiseTheRate #auspol
