Musical equivalent of shitposting. Experimental music, things recorded using a potato. MDNI, nazi punks fuck off.

I usually describe Chat Pile as a man having a mental breakdown set to old school Korn but see for yourself. One of the most unique bands out right now.

2006-2016. Encompasses so much from pop to alt to rock/metal to indie. Could maybe go plus or minus 2 years but then you start to miss out on the MySpace era.

If you think it’s bad you just paid $5 for a pizza. It fills its role beautifully
Walk in and tell them to crazy crust the entire pizza, not just the crust, and they’ll tell you you have a problem
ICB is fantastic

I heard Deafheaven then immediately found Alcest. I spent a lot of time looking for something similar and this album scratched that itch

I actually just discovered Crippling Alcoholism, which to me sounds like if sleep token tried sounding like portrayal of guilt instead of periphery. I think it’s one of the weirder things I’ve listened to but it’s some type of metal for sure

Ghost Bath gets turned on in the background sometimes as ambient music but I can’t name a single song or album. I don’t dislike them but I’m not stanning them

This topic of themed metal also echos why I’m always on the fence about Imperial Triumphant - 1920’s New York jazz musicians having a very bad day. Some of it rips and some of it is too much

Reddit hated me for saying this but I love Phyllomedusa. If you look at the project holistically it’s experimental with some material that rips. As for one I listen to regularly, it’s gotta be Chat Pile, which I describe as a mental breakdown set to old school Korn. One of my favorite bands

Someone once was excited for me to meet their son because they listen to “that dying aborted fetus band”, and I replied with “those are two bands actually

Not on the same level of famous as some of these bands, but I saw Ice Nine Kills at an American legion hall. To this day I have no idea how someone managed to schedule a metalcore show there because it never happened again

That’s called experimentation and that’s a good thing! Tweak until it sounds like a garbage disposal, then try to reverse what you did. You’ll simultaneously learn and stumble on cool sounds!
If you’re me you leave it sounding like a garbage disposal!

If we’re talking full albums, one of my favorites is this, with an honorable mention for Spacegrass by Clutch (the song, not the full album)

I remember this commercial, but I also expected the screen to freeze on an image of Chippy with a “Great Job”.
