Gandhi took his views on pacifism to some extreme places. He also played a key role in the story of India's partition. Listen to @dorianlynskey.bsky.social and @iandunt.bsky.social's fascinating episodes on Partition here ➡️ linktr.ee/originstoryp...

Trump's descent into fascism is worse than we could have predicted inews.co.uk/opinion/trum...

The conversation on Loose Women about the Supreme Court trans case is so much more sophisticated than anything I've seen from traditional politics programmes youtu.be/dCsJms0TnGA?...

323 pounds. I'm into vinyl and I'm into video games but I think we need to accept that we have long ago stopped making sense

This Mail on Sunday headline is so ridiculous it made me laugh, but the transphobia now rampant in parts of the UK media is no laughing matter for trans people & their families.

I’d ask my many cis-gender friends and followers to take a moment today to consider this scenario. You are so unhappy / uncomfortable with your birth sex that you choose to live as the opposite sex at the cost of family and other relationships.

This moment when the penny drops that trying to implement bathroom bans is an impossibility for the former Tory Chief Secretary Simon Clarke is delicious.

Watching America reduced to the needy lapdog of this preening fascist is truly horrific.

“Can’t begin to explain how surreal it is to be sitting on the floor in the safest place of my apartment hearing an extremely loud Russian missile+drone attack – after having spent entire day discussing and editing coverage of the US effectively demanding Ukraine’s surrender.” Olga Rudenko quoted…

If these Ukraine peace terms are as reported, they are a historic betrayal. Nothing in American history would come near to it. It would side the US squarely and definitively with dictatorship inews.co.uk/opinion/trum...

There’s nothing stopping the Home Office from changing a) how the migration figures are recorded (who counts as a migrant worker vs a foreign student on temporary visa) so they’re more credible and reliable, and b) how migration is actually managed. And yet, instead, we get this kind of nonsense.

Britain wakes up every day, aims the gun at its feet and pulls the trigger. Just a prolonged exercise in meanspiritedness and self-harm.

A bit of good news at last

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

No, Cadbury hasn’t removed the word ‘Easter’ from its chocolate eggs, and they aren’t certified halal either (although they say most of their chocolate is suitable for those following a halal diet).

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

Fascism is happening in front of your eyes. You can call it that or not - I don't give a fuck - but that is what it is.

I do not want your app. I do not want to register. I do not want your newsletter. And, from the bottom of my heart, I do not want your notifications. Please just let me buy what I need without entering into a long-term relationship with you, you freaky fucks.

This is the thing. I never capped up black, never used the word Latinx and never displayed my pronouns. Apart from the odd angry tweet, there were precisely zero negative implications for these decisions. No-one was ever forced to do a damn thing.

Incredible. He truly has no idea what he's going www.bbc.com/news/article...

This is really exciting. There'll be lots of objections, of course. But the ambition of it is thrilling. Basically using European rearmament to try and turn the euro into a global reserve currency.

The speech really is worth watching in full. It's very good in itself and quite astonishing coming from an attorney general.

Good piece by Ian, among other things picking up and developing points I made here about a deeply unimpressive Policy Exchange attack on the Attorney General. ukconstitutionallaw.org/2024/12/04/g...

One man is standing up for the rule of law in Britain. His reward is to be savagely attacked by right wing think tanks, newspapers & politicians. They understand where the battle against populism is taking place. And they've marshalled their forces accordingly. iandunt.substack.com/p/a-good-man...

The truth has become basic. Trump is a fool who is fucking everything up. There's no more to it than that. But there's only so many times you can write that column. So people are forced to construct 'well actually he has a point' arguments and 'hidden strategy' think pieces.

This cunt should be in jail

In which we finish off Thatcher, so to speak. The years of iron and hubris. Featuring the miners' strike, the underrated zingers of Geoffrey Howe, the reason why her disciples learn all the wrong lessons, PLUS my Walden/Thatcher impression to delight and amaze

furious at how perfect this column is, wish I could be happy for Duncan but unfortunately I'm simply seething at how good he is
