Physical terrain problems through the Kawartha highlands vs political and economic problems along the lake. Also from an Ottawa perspective, we won big time with the Kawartha line vs Kingston.

That decision is long in the past. Train via Peterborough has a lot of benefits, in part due to the lack of population centres in between Peterborough and Ottawa. Still lots of improvements to make to the traditional Lake Ontario service.
