Played both Dredge and Dave The Diver back to back in recent weeks, and apparently I am now a deepsea fisherman.

The latest Guided By Voices album has the usual ups and downs mixing their trademark low-fi with occasional production gloss, but after a first listen, there are some fantastic songs on there.

Brian Patten’s “Where Are You Now, Batman?”, c.1965, a truly poignant poem in its own right and a significant influence upon Alan Moore. (Patten’s Selected Poems are available from Penguin, from where I scanned this.)

I’m enjoying the new EC Comics revival from Oni Press. To the letter writer in Cruel Universe #4 who grew up on Twisted Tales (1983 Pacific Comics) and couldn’t remember its sci-fi companion; it was likely to have been Alien Worlds (1983), not the Weird Science (1950) that the editor suggested.
