The promise of a return to roots for a property I grew up with and a seasoned writer could have been gold (see also DWJ Transformers), but I find the art in the first four issues the only minor selling point, and the characters so bland and distasteful that even the artists can’t save them.

Jason Aaron is also a favorite writer of mine; especially Other Side and Scalped, Southern Bastards, Ghost Rider and Jane Foster Thor. The thing I like about his work is that he gives you something to care about in flawed or traditionally antagonistic archetypes…something that isn’t in TMNT yet.

I read Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Mirage from 1985-1993, but lost interest in the property after Eastman and Laird sold it. My love of those early comics eventually brought me back to the comics for a few Eastman entries in the last 15 years, and I loved Sophie Campbell’s take on the book.
