Good morning. (Cartoon by Don Martin)

I’m just walking around the kitchen, making breakfast for the kids and singing If I Could Turn Back Time on a loop. Thanks a lot, Lorne.

Here’s a subway sketchbook drawing from a few years back. An F train quickie…

The Audacity of Stupid.

I once shared a stage with Eric Adams when he was a guest on Catie Lazarus’s Employee of the Month Show and I’m here to tell you, in addition to being a criminal, he’s an asshole.

I didn’t vote for Elon Musk. I didn’t buy his car. I quit Twitter soon after he bought it. And still, there he is. How do I turn this thing off?

It’s not really about saying the quiet part out loud anymore. He and his have no quiet part. The only quiet they want is from us.

Started watching Buster Keaton movies from 1924-25 with my kids and it’s really satisfying how much they love them. Also satisfying how, when the “cannibals” showed up in the Navigator, my ten year old son said, “that’s so racist.”

Just boarded L at Union Square and I’m here to tell you that you can’t live if living is without hearing that high note in Without You played on a pan flute.

Chuck Prophet and Cumbia Shoes, last night at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock. Fiery and inspired show, which, beyond the great music and playing, reminded me that speaking your mind can be simple and transformative. Loved hanging out and drawing this one.

Just saw an embedded ad for official Beatles Crocs and that does it, they’ve jumped the shark. Also, pausing federal grants is a good way to say Republicans don’t give a fuck about people. Is this how I have to post now? Something frivolous and offhand with a follow up to say we’re in the shit.

The final episode of the Penguin made me want every second I spent watching that show back.

American surrealism is the new realism.

No oversight and no checks and balances. Anyways, here’s a drawing about today, I did last time around.

Sunday, February 2nd, I’ll be joining this incredible lineup at city Winery, NYC for the first Cabinet of Wonders of the new year. Wonder what I’ll draw for a start.

I just paid twenty dollars more than Amazon charges for a box of fine art printing papers to a company that just settled a discrimination case out of court because there are fewer and fewer choices in this world and I’m choking on trying to be good.

If you’re a fan of music and wonder what a restless zen mind sounds like when reflecting, check out this interview with my dear friend, Josh Kaufman conducted by one of my other friends, Cindy Howes. basicfolk.com/josh-kaufman...

Accidentally found this video of George Harrison, Billy Preston and George’s 1974 band playing with Ravi Shankar’s group and it’s mind blowing to me that I haven’t seen it before. Pre-GlobalFest GlobalFest: youtu.be/t0Bl9P8B1_Q?...

This weekend the I Get Wild band played our first gig at Brooklyn Made in Bushwick. Amazing venue with the best projector a guy like me could ask for. Also, we had the best guests who brought their love for the music of Talking Heads. Here’s a few drawings, including Michael Shannon guesting.

Everything is Broken by Bob Dylan is my wake up song.

Gonna draw all over this painting, live, tomorrow night with I Get Wild band playing the music of Talking Heads at Brooklyn Made in Bushwick. We have some ridiculously talented guests joining us too. Come along if you’re nearby. Last Party before the madness begins…

I’m going to be drawing along live with my band at Brooklyn Made on Saturday night, playing the music of the Talking Heads. We’ve got some ringers sitting in with us too (see below). Gonna be a fun and deep night.

Got to draw Dar Williams last night at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock. Her first album was a huge influence while her career has never been anything less than inspiring. Also, my daughter is a huge fan now, and getting to tell her what her songs mean to Clara meant the world to me.

Yesterday, while searching through files for a drawing, I came across this note from Jimmy Carter to my great grandmother. No algorithm, just blessed serendipity . . .

My kingdom for a water cooler we could all stand around in a shared reality.

New Year’s Eve w Helm Family Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm Studios. Around midnight, my wife texted asking if I heard the huge storm over town but I couldn’t hear the thunder over the thunderous. So this is how I step into 2025; There’s big noise but, also, there’s all that essential sound…

I think David Byrne sums it up eloquently and with reserve in the subject header of his most recent email blast, “2024 was quite a year.”

Here’s hoping…

Just ordered a small pizza for my kids’ dinner and was told the pizzeria only makes medium and large sizes. As a consequence, I am now referring to my youngest kid as my middle child.

Found myself on G train in Queens early Sunday & drew this woman sitting across from me. In the old days, alone on a train, I’d have broken into song, ‘cause singing in an otherwise empty train car is the best. But, in the old days, on any train with people, I’d draw. These are the good old days.

My kids are rehearsing their parts for the Sounding Joy at Levon Helm Studios next week and I was ready for how excited they’d be but I was totally unprepared to see my wife become a full on stage mother right before my eyes.

I’m at the Nutcracker if anyone needs me.

I don’t love the yacht rock doc as much as many of you do. You can try all you want, and I can even take a few of the songs on their own, but everyone trying to sound like Steely Dan bored the shit out of me. And I love Steely Dan.

My drawings from last night’s Andrew Marlin Stringband show at Levon Helm Studios with opening support from The Murphy Beds. It would have been my mother’s birthday yesterday and I felt her presence during this sublime folk and bluegrass show.

In case anyone is wondering, Eric Adams has less to do with this manhunt than Trump had to do with the benefit checks that bore his signature during the pandemic. They both just like Showbiz.

If you led any sort of justice-based campaign (that includes you, commentators) up to the election, or participated in any sort of justice-based campaign leading up to the election, I'm going to give you a gift that was given to me. Rev. Anya Sammler-Michael FTW. www.instagram.com/reel/DDVDx3P...
