It was actually the Andrew Tate movement that triggered the realization for me. I was super confused as to why people were call themselves "alpha males" (their term for people at the top of the social hierarchy), yet were having their behavior and appearance dictated to them by some random dude. 2/3

I have largely lost faith in the very concept of discourse. The free exchange of thoughts and ideas online has been, to paraphrase you, enormously damaging. Our legacy is brain worms.

I think that it never doesn’t pay to realize just how much of the post-2015 left teens/twentysomethings were recently out of the evangelical youth groups they grew up. Many found a new apocalyptic creed, and slotted new words into old places, and it shows.
