It’s increasingly clear the Trump admin wants to comprehensively defund civil society in order to weaken progressive politics. Elon Musk more or less makes this explicit with his numerous posts sweepingly defining government payments to NGO as “fraud”.

Huge news. This, allegedly, is the man who pulled Eden Knight back into the tentacles of her family & tricked her into returning to Saudi Arabia — potentially by lying to her about US asylum law. Eden’s friends always suspected that it was Bader Alomair, but neither they nor I was able to prove it.

This shouldn’t need saying, but it’s extremely important that journalists not downplay presidential lawbreaking. Laws are not “niceties”. They are laws. And the USA is meant to be a nation of laws. If you need to say “alleged” or “appeared to”, fine. But don’t hide the gravity of the act itself.

My basic read of this survey data is that teens trust social media influencers more than journalists and are essentially fine with YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and podcasts killing the news industry. In fact they think we'll be better off.
