50 injured, 6 children so far only in Kyiv, and it's only halfway through, bombers in the air have launched missiles already, arrivals in less than 1h. An awful night

Ok, but there is an apparent discrepancy with the Feb 6 news below that I've not seen properly disscussed so far. Either the task force disbanded by Bondi was just one among several others that remain active, or there are nominal sanctions but there's no one left to enforce them in practice.

NEW: The Supreme Court's order requiring U.S. to facilitate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from El Salvador could open the door to similar legal claims by those Trump deported lat month under the Alien Enemies Act. w/ @joshgerstein.bsky.social www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Didn't know that, but wouldn't surprise me much. In a rare coincidence, both Biden and Trump agree that Xi is really smart (beyond admiration or rejection: just stating a fact). I think that Biden and Xi would agree that Trump is an unsufferable dumbass. And the rest of us mostly hoped and wished.

Interesting. I'd like to see a similar summary on the US dependence on China, but I think Trump position is toast just with this quote: "Just 16% of what China exports is destined for North America (Exhibit 16), and a mere 2.4% of what China produces overall is consumed directly by Americans"

I'm quoting myself a few posts above, so this conversation is becoming a loop. You have stated your view, I've stated mine, you are not persuading me, I won't persuade you, and no further progress is posible beyond this point atm.

I didn't block anyone here. And it would be coping if Trump had not caved at all. But he did, yesterday, big time, with the EU not moving an eyebrow, for anyone but MAGAs to see. Now, I don't know if EU will end up caving or not. But you don't know either, and signs are that it won't happen.

Nor me or the EU care much what Trump says in that regard. I mean, I already stated above my personal preferences, but as long as retaliation is a real threat (and it is), difference will be minimal. Trump may have not enough time even to say "$350B" before he gets burned (again) by T10y yields.

EU witholding retaliation for the moment being is a sign of true strenght. Now, it were up to me, perhaps I had imposed a 10% as Trump more likely than not will read the "on hold" as weakeness. But relaxedly letting the feud with China explode all over Trump's face is not a bad strategy, either.

Again, no. The European tariffs that were in force remain in force.

Not dropped, but put on hold and ready to kick in at any moment if/when negotiations are not satisfactory. Not the same.

The inescapable truth is that both red meat and veganism present benefits AND risks.
