6/ Here's my boy. He's on home detention until he's fully vaccinated. Parvo is rife and thats a whole 'nother problem. Desexing in due course is part of the adoption contract, as it should be.

5/ I've had my boy for a week now and he's thriving! But in that week, the same rescue that saved my boy has had 10 more, even smaller pups, handed over to them. That's just one rescue organisation, in one small part of the country, that only takes in dogs.

4/ I've just adopted a rescue pup. One of 10 abandoned in a box. Found by chance, weighing in at just 600 grams. I was able to adopt him once his foster mumma had got him up to a healthy 3.5kgs.

3/ Animal rescues and shelters are above capacity. Pets aren't being desexed and puppies and kittens are being handed over to shelters or abandoned. Litters of ~10 at a time, often as young as 3 to 5 weeks old. When they still need their mummas.

2/ The number of animals needing rehoming, or just being dumped, is one of many things on my mind atm. People are losing their jobs, having to relocate into non-pet friendly rentals, the cost of vet care is going up. Pet owners are having to make tough decisions.

1/ We all have causes that tug on our heartstrings. I'm not sure anyone could survive/thrive trying to solve all the world's ills.

I travelled through Syria circa 2000. Beautiful landscapes, heritage sites (Palmyra a highlight), the Damascus bazaar, the taste bud dazzling street food. The people I met were so warm and welcoming. I hope the current power vacuum will be filled by a kind and just regime.

Oh goodie. I've got an early morning meeting, deadlines all week, and just got the 'you have to change your system password' email. Cue an hour faffing about on the intranet trying to remember how to do that, plus how to sync across all devices.

Procrastinating about going to bed because such a big day tomorrow and I'm not ready to lose my Sunday vibe quite yet. Even though we're technically 29 mins into Monday already πŸ₯±

I don't think playing Crash Team Racing as a wind down just before bed was a good idea. Trying to get to sleep and my mind is racing through tunnels at top speed trying to collect magic crates... Audio book time I think.

"The culling of 80,000 layer hens continued today" (1News at Six). H7N6 bird flu. It must be absolutely devastating for the farmers affected, more than just economically, and for those responsible for carrying out MPI's culling directive. πŸ’” www.mpi.govt.nz/news/media-r...

I love biographies and documentaries. Been absolutely glued to "Tsunami: Race Against Time" the past couple of nights m.imdb.com/title/tt3402...

Six days left (for me) of the "Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you" challenge. Do we leave it there? Or can we go back and ask questions about others' book choices to inform, for example, our summer reading list? Can we subsequently advocate for our choices? #BookSky #Books

My normally chill doggo has been going off her head all evening barking at something outside. We've walked the perimeter (such as it is) several times, including just now with my torch. I can't see anything? Maybe a possum? Hedgehog? New cat? A bit disconcerting.
