The Irish Water works in recent years also made the road one-way and the traffic disruption was not as bad as expected. It's a good sign that the trial can happen without too much of an impact.
The choice is action now or over a decade of delay.

Yes, the green strip is not continuous, building a cycle path with new flood defences will take 15+ years and access for cars and deliveries will be maintained, just in one direction.
A key part of the ask to trial the route is to design it in a way that emergency services can use the cycle path.

No system is perfect, but bumping people out of Z1 was always going to run into issues.
They could at least have done €2 for local trips anywhere. Or looked more at the fairness of trips like going from A-B in outer areas, the price of child tickets in Zones 2+ and the lack of group/family tickets
