I wear pretty dresses, paint plastic chainsaw knights, and design video games. I'm pretty good at those things too. Formerly of Monolith Productions. Horny on main. (He/She/They)

Thanks! Honestly I feel most of it comes from my partner doing my hair. The difference it makes in bringing an outfit together is massive.

I started writing in games because I frankly couldn’t stop. Marketing copy, unit descriptions, item labels. Anything my team would let me touch.
Using ChatGPT is like hiring a robot to eat my dessert for me. Like sure, but why?

Honestly, the only reason that segment in the Witcher 4 demo managed to get made at all is likely because they're self published and already have a TON of cash to their name. (6/?)

Things common to AAA blockbuster games: big cinematics, flashy combat, exceptional VA, huge open worlds, etc... are all things that are easy to demo to a room full of money men who'll never touch the controller during in the meeting.
Their appetites, not players', determine what gets made. (5/?)

Despite there likely being a large, unanswered appetite for procedural systemic gameplay in a AAA title, this almost never happens. Why?
My theory is that systemic gameplay doesn't demo well. It doesn't vertical slice well, and often comes into its own pretty far into development. (4/?)

The only two AAA games I can think of in development that were using gameplay systems like that were 'Black Panther' and 'Wonder Woman'. They were both cancelled while in pre-prod. Otherwise all procedural gameplay dev seems to be done by weird indie titles, and AA grand strategy games. (3/?)

A LOT of resources probably went into that reactive system. It's hard to get right and difficult to QA. On the whole, AAA titles rarely deploy deep reactive systems, despite being the folks with the most resources and having teams of highly capable engineers and designers. (2/?)

Sorta? It was discovered posthumously they were born intersex. It’s also possible they socially transitioned because of that royal decree (though they offered to raise a female unit of grenadiers for the US War of Independence).
It’s hazardous to map our gender language onto historical figures.

For context: Dave Van Ronk was vehemently against the Vietnam War, frequently attended protests and was no stranger to civil disobedience. This was NOT his first rodeo.

Even if you're not hiring, check out his portfolio. Once, while new to the industry, he redid every single UI screen in Mass Effect 1, in his free time as a personal piece. Just to see if he could.
EVERY. SINGLE. SCREEN.

“That’s not what the developers intended!” They yell, in response to something that took hundreds, if not thousands of work hours of design and QA.

OK but yes! I want more stories focusing on how utterly codependent and non-functional space marines are without their brothers.

Put more snarkily: It's a straight story when they move from the city to the country to learn the value of hard work, honest living, and family.
It's a queer story when they move from the country to the city to not die, and be happy at all.
